Exclamation Help whit Backup

Hi all,

I'm currently working on making a backup for 1 of my hard drives which it has been doing some kind of loud sound every time i startup the system.

So i decided to make a backup of all my files around 400gb of pr0n XD, JK srsly.
And i just bought a 100 pack of dvd-r blanks to make the backup whit.

Now im planning on using Winrar to compress all the files in to parts of 4gb each
then burn them in to dvds.
then ill be formatting the drive and getting all my files back to it.

Any tips?

Now i dont want to try using any external hard drives i have like 2 of them and my computer only detects the external drives when ever my computer feels like it.

thanks alot !

Most backup programs will allow you to span a backup over multiple CDs/DVDs. Check if your software can do that as it eliminates the need to try to make 4Gig pieces with Winrar.

April fools was yesterday. There's no way in hell you're being serious about this.

Use an external USB hard-drive.

Hmph. I remember the days of backing up a tiny HDD with a whole truck load of floppies. The OP isn't mad, just oldschool.

And that was 5.25" floppies as well.

(Ah, the good old days of notching 5.25" floppies so you could use both sides on a Commodore64. )

I'm oldschool too but have managed to retain my Common Sense. It states that there is no point in buying a hundred DVD's and then wasting time burning all that data onto them when you can buy an external USB disk and backup your data there. DVD's might be several times cheaper but they're nowhere near as reliable. Not to mention fast. Both backup and recovery from a USB disk will be significantly faster.

I keep one 3,5" floppy in my car. Just to have something to scrape ice off the windshield with. That's about where their usefulness ends. Floppies, not windshields. >_>

I used to keep a few 3.5" floppies around to boot into DOS with and/or load RAID drivers, but then I set up a bootable USB flash drive and now even those few are gathering dust.
The shoe boxes were gone a long time ago.

Btw, although this was probably an April Fool's "joke", the OP did say his computer was having problems recognizing USB drives.

.
Yeah, I know what you mean, I had a few "specialty" floppies like that myself, I think they all went to the dump in a move a few years back though. I actually do have a floppy drive installed on my test computer though.... it's hard to imagine, but I do run into a few people running Windows 98 still, and even had a guy last year with Windows 3.1 (wanted to know why his highspeed internet wouldn't work).

actually im not really going oldschool thing is i have 3 160gb external harddrives but the enclosures arent working properly i think thats because my computer doesnt recognize them, the other option i have is pluggin the Sata Drives into my computer motherboard and then make the backup.

i dont want to use a harddrive because later i will have to make another backup of that drive, And using dvd blanks i think thats the safe way to go and save my music, videos and games.
