Default Texmod + -fps start up command

I'd like to use the -fps parameter to limit the fps to 75 so maybe my laptop will run a little less hot. However, whenever I use texmod it seems to negate the command and lets the fps run as high as 130 or so.

Does anyone know if I can use both at the same time and if so, how? Thank you in advance.

Why not do the sensible thing and run with v-sync enabled? That way the fps is synchronised with your display's refresh rate - usually 60. Anything over that is pointless anyway, unless you're a professional FPS player who swears that he can shoot someone in the invisible frames that the monitor can't display...

(Can you tell that I have no time for fps maniacs?)

Just tried it. Even with v-sync on the fps is jumping up to 120ish

That was kind of my point with the extra fps...they're just eating up computer resources.

Does the vsync work properly without Texmod? In other words, is it Texmod that's causing the problem?

It's been a long time since I've used Texmod - I only used it to finish the cartographer titles, and it's not even installed any more - and I don't recall any Texmod setting that would affect fps. My only advice would be to stop using Texmod, unless it's cartographer titles you're doing.

P.s. I've seen some mention of Steam in connection to Texmod problems. If you are launching GW through steam and/or have Steam running in the background, try exiting steam and/or running without it. And, if that works, get into the Steam settings and set it to not start automatically when Windows starts.

My v-sync doesn't work with or without texmod. The refresh rate under the graphics tab is faded out and set to "Default Rate" so I have no way to change it. I don't have steam, so that's not the issue.

It sounds like you either don't have the proper graphics driver installed. What graphics does the laptop have?

Your refresh rate in options is set to default because you are using Guild Wars in a window, I suspect. That means your refresh rate is the same as whatever your desktop is configured to be. Check what your refresh rate there is. If you have a 120 Hz monitor, Vsync may only be capping you at 120 FPS instead of the 60-80ish of most monitors.

Either there's something wrong with your video drivers or you have a hugely expensive laptop with 120 Hz refresh - do they even make those?

In that case, it's normal for v-sync to cap at 120fps. Anyways, what are the temperatures on your GTX460m. It can handle up to 105C for sure, if the cooling is adequate, you'll probably be hitting onlt 85C so nothing to worry about. You can set the refresh rate in the graphics options if you want it to run at lower fps.

To snograt, yep the 3D models have 120Hz monitors for obvious reasons. I don't get why someone would get 3D on a GTX460m though (except for the lcd panel quality or matte panel, some of the 3D models have wicked quality LCDs). Performance wise, I pity the GTX460m that tries to push games in 3D at 1080p.

EDIT: I'd take this opportunity to update my video drivers as well to 270.61

Heh, shot down by a kick-ass laptop ^___^

Buy yourself one of those laptop coolers - and don't actually use it on your lap, if you intend to have kids
