Default Windows 10 Updated...GW Issue

Hi guys,

I just updated from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 today.

Everything seems fine other than the following issue with Guild Wars...

Whenever I log into a character, the area I start in loads fine. However, when i try to travel or move to a new area, Guild Wars gets stuck on the loading screen, it gets to 100% then doesn't do anything.

If i do a Ctrl Alt Delete, open the task manager, then return to the game, it continues as normal.

Has anyone ever had this problem, or know of a fix more importantly? I don't really fancy doing the temporary fix i mentioned above for the rest of my Guild Wars playing days...

Thanks in advance...

CORRECTION: I am now having the issue upon first entering the game as well...

Edit:
In response to Schmerdro; I am not sure it is to do with waiting, as I cannot seem to interect with the close/minimise/maximise buttons which are still invisible in the top right corner of the loading screen. I don't know much about computers but possibly it is a graphics software issue on my laptop's end which has been triggered by the update to windows 10? I play on an HP Envy Laptop, i7 intel processor, with a nvidia geforce graphics card. Not sure how much more info there is to give re the problem. Thanks for the responses so far

I have the latest version of Windows 10 and GW works fine for me. Maybe the problem is something else or you're just not waiting enough time for the screen to load. Either way, do you think you could give more information? Like a short description of your computer specs?

Windows 10 isn't giving me problems either.

Standard response: Have you updated your drivers, especially for your graphics card?

Exclamation Guild Wars 1 stuck at loading screen at 100% - has worked before!

Hi, did you ever resolve this severe issue? And if so, what was the reason and what concretely is the resolution??

I had been running Windows 10 (64 bit) perfectly fine with Guild Wars 1 for about a year when this exact month - march 2016 - it begins/logins OK but then exactly as you describe it EPICLY FAILS LOADING ANY AND ALL areas - both outposts AND explorables. It is always getting stuck at 100% and with 0 files remaining. The extremely annoying and tedious workaround is correctly to trigger the task manager, which then "wakes up" the game ONCE, and you can alt.tab back into it (and play ONLY UNTIL you need to swith area when it happens AGAIN). If you simply wait, the game will be stuck and fail to finish loading forever (tested for well over 24 hours). This is of course a totally unacceptable workaround, only being interesting for troubleshooting purposes.

For the record, ping and internet connection is stable and my system (OS, drivers etc.) is totally updated in all regards AND works 100% perfectly fine in ALL other aspects, including Guild Wars 2 and even with older games like Lord of the Rings Online and Neverwinter Nights. Evidently a relatively late patch (of Guild Wars and/or Windows) has broken the game in this severe regard.

Please advice if any solution is possible! If not, I will take this as a cue to uninstall and stop playing old guild wars 1. It would be sad yes, but I simply do not have time or energy for these kind of tedious dealbreaker issues.

I have the same problem. Whenever i load into a map it gets to 100% then nothing happens until i open task manager. For me the fix was to not play in full screen. When im in full screen and press to exit full screen it freezes aswell, but then i just open up task manager and it gets fixed. So yeah, for me the fix was playing in window mode and it works fine, let me know how it goes.

Typically I play in windowed mode because I alt-tab a lot. Switched to full screen but couldn't reproduce the loading failures. The loading screens do flash black briefly, though that's just a minor annoyance. Maybe it's an obscure issue with antivirus software or something.

Thanks for confirming the issue. However playing in windowed mode is NOT an option for me. You lose the native optimal resolution which is so much better in so many aspects. Furthermore I strongly dislike the cluttered effect and loss of immersion.

I was really hoping for a proper solution. What exactly is the reason for the game getting stuck at the 100% loading screen? Remember that this has worked before!

For the record it has absolutely nothing to do with antivirus software. The exact same antivirus was running when it worked totally fine a couple of months ago, AND even totally disabling it (NOT recommended for anything else but fast testing) does no difference whatsoever. Suffice to say this is a real pity.

I will give it one last shot if someone has any useful concrete input to test and resolve this.

Cheers!
