Install from EoTN disk and then run -image.

I would just run - image on the internet install.

Not sure how it works, but a lot of the files on the CD have been changed and they have to either be over written or replaced with new versions, etc.

A network install is probably much cleaner.

No matter what way you install it, you would probably have to download tons of new files anyway - so doing the "-image" is probably best in any case.
You can either install any one of the disks (you only need to install one) or you can download the client. Which one is faster depends on the speed of your connection etc.
Overall, it's probably simplest to install from one of the CDs and then do an -image.

All you need to do is install the factions CD. The client (that you would download) is the same.
After you install Factions, just do the -image thing and all the rest of the content will be installed.

-image will download everything that's missing, so it won't d/l anything that's already there. I echo what DarkFlame said - the EotN disk contains the most up-to-date gw.dat available on a disk. Delete the one you have, copy over the gw.dat from the EotN disk, THEN do an -image.

Installing from Eye of the North would be the smartest thing to do, as it just copies the .dat file from the cd to your install directory. After that you can -image. You won't have to download anywhere near as much.

Eh? You can't just run the client "gw.exe" (Should create it's own .dat file), let it download, log in, pick a character, let it load. Download speeds for my mediocre ISP is pretty quick, not counting the first area to load, and sometimes Guild Halls.

Yes, you can just run the client and GW will download anything you need, as you go. But, that can lead to some annoying delays everytime you enter a new area that needs updating. Doing -image, which can be left to run overnight or while at work, just eliminates those delays.
If the OP is anxious to get playing again after installing Factions, he could just start playing and downloading as he goes, and then do the -image thing later.

Should be like this:
"C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\Gw.exe" -image
I suggest making a copy of the shortcut with the -image added on, and label it "repair" or something of the sort, just in case.

The space between ...gw.exe" and -image is important
