Its a common enough lag problem, the cause is your internet connection.

If it happens all the time day after day then you have a real problem with your connection and you need to talk to your service provider about it.

Or you could have some internet security software anti virus/spyware that's slowing down data transfer.

Only thing you can do in game is to run the -image command to make sure the game is fully updated.

Make a shortcut to Guild Wars, right click and select Properties. On the target line, add -image with a space after the directory and simply run the game using the shortcut after applying the changes.

That's a load of files I hope your conection is reasonably fast.

2 good points however.

First it will update the entire game including areas you haven't visited yet so you will not get long delays when you enter a new area.

Second you can stop the download and then continue another time so spreading it over a few days or weeks if needs be.

Useful info for the future

Each of the game disks has the entire game its your access code that tells the server which games you own.

Installing from the latest game disk you have is always the best course so if I had to do a reinstall I would use my eye of the north disks.

Its not a bad idea to back up the game data file at some point because if you for any reason lose the instalation or move to another computer you have the bulk of the instalation backed up.
Its probably going to weigh in at nearly 4 gig but if you can manage having a copy on a dvd rw or usb device or another hard disk its useful.

It only took me 12 to 20 hrs to download eveything on my new pc.I was using -image to download at desktop and had nothing else running my dl speed was the same 30 kps.It is best to close all applications on new DL and leave it at desktop and let it all download.
