Default Is this temporary?

This better be temporary... At the time of writing this, 11/24/08, the lag is so bad on GW that I cannot play it. My internet connection is fully optimized and I have nothing running on my computer so far yet the network still hangs. Today I could play it with minimal lag and now it's overburdened with just loading the character screen...

Is anyone else having this problem and what did Anet change that could be the cause of it? This is really pissing me off...

Isn't there maintenance or something happening today? I think it was sometime around today, but I can't be sure because of the time difference.

maintenance doesn't start for another 5 hours and will only be intermittent. there's too many variables to consider in the OP.

If you're using ADSL or Cable broadband you are inevitably sharing that line with between 24-48 other connections who tend to use it more during peak times. As such this will have a negative impact on your connection.

If you share your home broadband with other users, they may have left something running like a download or someone might be using alot of bandwidth on youtube.

Your ISP may have capped your bandwidth and so reduced the amount of data you're able to send/receive for a period until your usage decreases.

You may have undetected malware running on your computer, sometimes your av won't detect every bit of it.

There may be a botnet or some other distributor of malware hitting your connection hard trying to find a way through your firewall.

Basically there's an unending number of variables you apparently haven't accounted for which may not be anet's fault.

However, when GW is busy there may be delays accessing the game.

So to simply get pissed off at Anet for something you haven't investigated thoroughly is not going to solve your problem. I suggest you investigate the things I've mentioned above and if that doesn't help, run the gw.exe program and click the link on the login page to run a test. Then send the results of this in a ticket to Anet support. See what they say.

uhhhh yaaaa....
it is Anets fault :P
they have servers made of old pop sickle sticks and employees that are lazier then shit that like to pawn off the blame for the ridiculous amount of lag that you plus 998743 other players are experiencing on yourself like mr. know it all up here ^^^^
even tho 3/4's the people playing have the same problem they still seem to be stern believers that its not their fault
its funny

[heavy sigh]

Why do people assume that lag always has to be ANet's fault? The internet is a big place and you have to take a long road to get anywhere. If there's a problem, such as a bad router, anywhere along the route between you and the GW servers, you can have lag.
And, yes, we've all heard the "but everything else works" routine. It's "everything else you've tried" not "everything else that takes the same routing path".

Think of it like a big city. You want to get across town to the Wal-Mart, but the major bridge across the river, that you have to cross, is down to one lane because of construction. Meanwhile, the roads to the Best Buy on the other side of town are clear. "I can't get to the Wal-mart, but I can get to Best Buy. It must be Wal-Marts fault! Their store sucks! QQQ!"

Many streets - many routes.

Yes, I got on later that night and y'know what? It worked beautifully, so well... I had a FPS of 40 and Shing Jea had maximum server capacity and I still had a green ping. In fact, it was superior to my other computer in every way and last night was the first time I had decided to try running it with a Mac on Crossover.

I gave up my secret... I'm running a Mac on Crossover Games. It works so much better than my crusty Windows PC.

I've heard/seen many people talk about how well GW runs on a Mac using Crossover. However, they usually compare it to their old PC, which, of course, is older and not as powerful. I'd be curious to know how well GW runs under Crossover as compared to GW under XP on equivalent hardware. Basically, given that the hardware in a modern Mac is pretty much the same as the hardware in a PC, I doubt that there would be any big difference.

Or, to put it another way, if you took your Mac and installed only WinXP on it - it would be a PC.
