Default verizon dsl & guild wars

Hello all,
I am going to be moving into a new house and getting Verizon DSL to play Guild Wars. What is everyones experiences with Verizon DSL, and their 1mb service or their 3mb service and guild wars? I am looking to see if I need to pay for the extra 3mb service, I am looking to cut costs so any help will be appriciated. Thanks all!

I have the 3mb service and find it very reliable. Lag is rarely an issue, even when guru is full of "OMG LAGGGGG!!!1!!!!" threads.

Don't know how different 1mb would be, but I don't think there's a big difference in price. I know 3mb is $31.99/mo or $29.99/mo with a 2-year commitment.

I have had the basic DSL service from Verizon(768 kb) for 2 and a half years, and GW is fine. I previously had 5 mb cable from Comcast, and didn't notice any difference while playing Guild Wars. The game can run on dial-up, after all. Verizon DSL was far more reliable. I have lost my connection for less than 12 hours/year total with them, while Comcast went down for up to 48 hours at a time, twice in one year. Verizon DSL was more difficult to set up initially, and activation took a few days longer.

Obviously, other web activities like surfing, streaming, and downloading are faster with higher bandwidth.

@Parson: Verizon is currently offering new customers up to 1 Mb for $17.99 with 2 year contract, a saving of $288 over the contract term versus the 3 Mb.

Verizon DSL user here, going on 6 years. Started out at 768k, now on 3Mb. My first year with them was hellish, because there would be sudden pauses for no reason. The service was new in this area though, so I chalk that up to growing pains. I wasn't playing any online games at that time either.

Verizon has been quite stable for me the last few years though, and I have run GW pretty reliably. I must warn you of 2 things though... their Tech support is horrendous, and up until last year their spam filters were equally horrible. I stopped using my Verizon netmail account completely because the spam was flooding through, and moved everything to Yahoo.

In summary, good internet service, horrible support. Be prepared to troubleshoot and fix your own problems, should they arise.

I played GW for 2 yrs on 1.5 mb dsl and had zero problems. It's not so much your connection speed that will cause ingame trouble anyways.. it's the latency (ie how far you are from the nearest server and method of transmitting the signal) and serverside issues...

My former employer used Verizon DSL, it was usually reliable, but seemed to go down whenever it rained a lot. I would pay close attention to your bills. I use to use Verizon for long distance service. They allowed companies to start billing Verizon customers for services that they did not order. My phone bill trippled for about 3 months after I finally cancelled their service. They allowed a company to sell a service(still dont know what it was) without concent, or means to remove it, even through the company had several FCC rulings against it.
