Default Computer freezes in N.O.X. quest

Ok, so I decided to finish this quest off the other day. Problem is, when I get to N.O.X, my computer just freezes up (music stops aswell) and I have to restart my computer. It's happened everytime I tried yesterday (4 times) and today aswell (once). This problem has happened at a few other places (end of a Hidden City vanquish, start of a Hidden City vanquish, some other vanquish I forgot), but those were just a one off thing; I could go back and get them done without problems.

SCREENSHOTS! Those are some of the best ways of making your point
Feel free to use drawings and diagrams to illustrate your point, but please don't back up your argument with stick-figures.
I can't get screenshots because my computer freezes.

Your Server (Euro, American, etc)
American.

What zone you are in.
Problem only occurs after I talk to the attendant guy and I get to the little area with Bokka and N.O.X. I can usually get to N.O.X before my computer freezes.

Quote:
Were there people in your party? Could they see what happened?
H/H only.

Quote:
After what update did you first notice it?
The first time it happened (end of a Hidden City vanquish) was last Sunday (March 8?) Also, when this quest first came out I tried this mission without problems (thought it'd be easy, didn't take it seriously, and wiped) but only now it seems to be freezing my computer.

Quote:
Can you consistently reproduce it?
Yes.

Quote:
What did you do right before the error occurred?
It doesn't seem to matter. I waited in front of the attendant for 15 mins and had no problems, but when I talked to him and jumped into the mission my computer froze, same as it always did. Those other times it froze seemed to be random (they're annoying as hell, but not really a major issue).

------------------

Lastly, don't know if it matters or not, but I don't have TexMod or anything like that installed.

Help?

Thanks in advance.

.

I had similar probs. Sometimes ( most times ) when entering a new zone for a char. Turned out to be in Virus protection. Make sure everything is set to good guy and maybe ask the Virus folks if they can help.

I got a patch that has cut down on discon/freezes alot.

You might also allow the Virus prot to post when its checking out a program it deems suspicious. It will be a ding/small post box/discon /freeze.

Good luck

Do you have Intel integrated graphics, by any chance? Known to throw a wobbly in parts of EotN - can you access Rata Sum without problems?

(I suspect this is a Tech's Corner job rather than Game Bugs)

Just tried Rata Sum, it's working fine.

Have you imaged your dat file recently? More than likely, this will fix the problem.

imaged? Are you referring to that thing people do when you open the DAT file and put -image somewhere and it downloads all the files or something like that? I've never opened my DAT file, so if thats what you meant, I haven't done it. If you think it'll help, I'll try it.

It's not a case of "opening" the .dat file or anything complicated - it's just a case of temporarily editing the shortcut to Guild Wars so that the target box has -image right at the end of the path.

Alternatively, you can just enter the following in the Start>Run box (or the Start>Search box in Vista):

Code:
C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\gw.exe -image
This assumes that GW is installed in the default location - if not, change the path accordingly.

I tried doing both of these things but I just get this popup thing that tells me that 'C:\x\y\z\gw.dat -image' doesn't exist/can't be found.

Things to check:

Make sure you typed in the exact path.
Make sure there is a space between gw.exe and -image

If you're using the shortcut method, the whole thing will be in quotes, thusly:

Code:
"C:\wherever\Guild Wars\gw.exe" -image
Again, the space between gw.exe" and -image is all-important.

Hmmm, I -imaged last Saturday and since then my Ranger randomly crashed once (lost my survivor ffs) and N.O.X has crashed both times I tried. It's crashing when he gets to half health (or something like that, it's hard to tell) instead of when I enter the zone.

type eventvwr.msc in command prompt.
if you're using vista, you might just have to type 'eve' in start search. i'm not sure, tbh, try eventvwr.msc first.

check both 'application' and 'system' for any failures (red circles) and warnings (yellow triangles).
if you encounter any, reproduce the crash and check the event viewer then. there should be a failure by the time you crashed. i suggest to wait a while (2-3 minutes) before you reset the machine, after it locks down.
