Default low fps in guild wars

Hey I was just wondering if anyone knows why my fps is so low when im playing in guild wars. For example standing in the guild hall right now my fps is around 30 or so but sometimes can dip lower than that in other places or higher. I have v sync turned on so i know I can only get a max of 60 but even with it turned off it seems to have little effect on increasing my fps.

My computer is running an 8800GTS, 2gigs of ram and 2.66 dual core cpu. This should easily be enough to run guild wars at the maximum 60fps all the time but for some reason it isnt.

Anyone have any ideas or have this problem?

vsync doesn't just cap your FPS at your monitor refresh rate. I have observed in GW that it has a substantial negative impact on overall FPS.

For example say your monitor refresh rate is 75
Without vsync enabled you are getting 100FPS.
You enable vsync and you expect your FPS to drop to exactly 75
Instead it drops down to 50
Enabling vsync causes this behaviour in other games as well.

That said however...your FPS is excessively low for the hardware you mention.

I discovered a Windows 7 beta / Nvidia drivers bug and Guild Wars.
Every time I zone somewhere my FPS would drop drastically ( by about 60FPS O.o )
It required that I switch between window and full screen at which point my FPS would climb back to normal....until I zone somewhere again.

are you running Vista? With the stock Vista/Nvidia drivers I was getting 18-25 fps in GW and by using some Forceware drivers my FPS went screaming up to 60...... 7900GS video card... but it certainly does sound like a driver problem.

Yeah I have vista and im running with the latest drivers available to me 182.50. Hmm thinking its a driver problem seems to make sense as I didn't have this problem when I first got my 8800 2 years ago ^ ^. Ah well im not gonna roll back my drivers just for guild wars as its still decent enough not to affect play.
