Default Vidoe/Gameplay Issues..... HELP!

This is occuring on my sons computer....funny enough the only system in the house that has Vista. Never had much of a problem, but yesterday all of a sudden he began getting the "repairing archive data" upon trying to load the game. After the repair it let him in a few times .... but after that - it wouldn't allow him to open the game at all. Several times it came up with an error "GW has experieced....BLAH and must shut down" - allowed us to send the error report to GW but have heard nothing back from that.

Here is what we've done so far.... thank god I'm married to a computer programmer. LOL I'd be lost up in the river without a paddle where it not for him.

- Installed any needed windows updates
- Made sure DirectX was of the most recent version
- Checked Video Drives - downloaded latest and greatest
- Completely uninstalled and reinstalled Guild Wars
- Finally out of sheer frustration - formatted the bloody system.

Still does the "repairing data archive" today on occasion
Once in the game - whether in town or out in the explorable areas - NPC characters hop and jump back and forth for no reason and there is nothing that we can do to stop them. Hubby pulled henchies out just to see what they would do, and Mehnlo did a nose dive into a sand dune. It's like they are caught in an endless loop.

**Also when we first got him back into the game - all of the landmarks where missing their name tags.... but that has just recently resolved itself. Figured I'd mention it in case it is important somehow.

I'll try to provide as much information as I can to better help you, so if you need any further info - please just ask.

it sounds almost like a failing harddrive. tbh, i have no real idea. my laptop occasionally does the repair data archive also, but i don't have any of the other problems.

try swapping in a spare hard drive to see if it still does it.

Not had any problems with guild wars and Vista so far, first thing I would have tried would be a back step "too late now though.
If its still a problem after a complete system reinstall then hardware would seem to be the logical next step.

Depending on the age of the system I would look to a failing power supply Hard disk or maybe graphics card.
All of those would cause problems in other applications though.
Any other corrupted data errors ? is the hard disk running within normal temp range ?

If its a hard used system over 3 years old with original parts then you might need one of those replacing.
I have had 5 year old systems running perfectly well but nothing lasts forever and fans and motors tend to wear out faster than circuitry.

If it's as moriz said, you'd want to run chkdsk.

How are the temperatures in the computer? And is this computer wired or wireless?
