This will fix the problem:

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=HLG7PYIZ

Run it and it will fix it. It did to mine.

Post as soon as you install WinSock.

Edit: Basically it means your registry is messed up. WinSock fixes your registry. One time I had a trojan attack and it wouldn't let me connect on firefox and IE, but it would say I was connected.

Could just be the firewall or anti virus stopping the browser accessing the Internet...

cheers leet, will get onto it asap =]

and no google wont load at all

and i have checked all firewall settings, i have changed windows defender to allow both IE and firefox through to no avail,
and there seems to be an installation of norton, but its not in the dock bar and when i try to run it nothing happens, not even a process.

UPDATE, i ran the program leet sent, although when the i ran it, it went through the fixing screen, but when that was done, and i was prompted to restart, i clicked ok but an error 53 came up

Edit 2: as i said, i ran the program, but it didnt restart, so i restarted the pc manually, but still no connection in firefox or IE
should i install AVG or avast on it, and run a virus scan?

Try disabling all firewalls and anti viruses and then try.
