Hi

GW seems to have suddenly started using 100% CPU, causing low frame rates and slow loading.

It seems to have just randomly started. I have a fairly old system. Athlon 64 3200, 1 gig ram, geforce 6600 256.

But it has always ran GW fine until seemingly today.

Any thoughts?

GW uses 100% of single core CPUs im most cases.
Try updating your video card drivers from nvidias website. You will be surprised how much a new driver can help.
Did you install a new OS/update service pack?
Install an antivirus that may have been scanning your system or indexing programs (comodo does that on a default instal sometimes)
Install a search program such as google desktop or windows search?
What os are you running? (i assume XP)

Lastly....bring up task manager (ctrl alt delete) and check to see what your ram usage is currently at. If the "commit charge" is much higher then your 1gig system ram, it would probably be lagging up GW

like Wrath of Dragons said, it's most likely background processes of some sort slowing you down, esp on an older system.

Do the usual virus and spyware checks (AVG and Ad-aware are free). Make sure any and all cooling fans are running and clean the dust out of the machine. Get more RAM. Have a nice day.

And, if you are familiar with Regedit or Msconfig, check how many useless little RAM hogs are running in your systray (like Quicktime, etc.)
