Default Mouse look not working properly

Hello. I am new to guild wars, and I have a problem with the mouse look (holding down RMB to look around with the camera). Whenever I hold down the button, the camera spins out of control like the sensitivity is super high. Clicking the RMB once seems to reset the camera at an odd angle, and holding it down will make the camera spaz out. This makes the mouse look feature (and basically the game) unplayable.

I am on Vista 64 ultimate. I have a logitech mx518 mouse, 8800 gtx, rather fresh install of the OS with only a few other games installed plus a few apps, like ventrilo and steam. I should also note that this problem also occurs when i play Shadowbane, same thing with the mouse look in that game (which is mouse 3 button instead). But, it doesn't happen in several other RPG games that have mouse look.

Things I have tried:

-Used 2 completely different mice, tried both PS2 and USB plug ins and in several different slots. Tried multiple mouse pads, doesn't appear to be a physical problem or have anything to do with the mouse or pads.

-Ran the game in compatibility with several different windows including XP2. Also tried running the game as an admin.

-Tried it on a fresh plug in of the mouse, also tried after installing the latest mouse drivers. Messed with all kinds of options in the mouse settings in control panel. Also tried all kinds of settings that the mouse drivers gave.

-Tried 3 different video card drivers.

-Reinstalled the game. Messed with all kinds of settings in-game. Tried binding mouse look to another key but it still happens.

I believe it has something to do with vista 64. I searched everywhere and have only seen it mentioned once but there was no solutions given. Has anyone seen or heard of this problem?

I assume you mean "lock". Sounds like you've been through hell trying to fix it.

How old is your keyboard, and is it clean? Is it possible you have a key that may be sticking? Is your mouse serial or USB? If it is USB, do you have a second USB port where you can plug it in? Have you tried a different mouse?

From time to time I get a similar, though not as severe occurance in which suddenly my character wants to turn left permanently while he's running. To correct this, I have to left click somewhere on the screen while holding down the "e" or "d" key which turns my character to the right.

Good luck. I hope you find a solution.

Hey, thanks for the reply.

I am referring to the mouse look button, or the button you hold down when you want to use the mouse to move your camera around. For guild wars it is the right click on the mouse button.

My keyboard is a G15 logitech, a couple years old. I have tried re-binding the mouse look key to other keys, but the outcome is the same no matter what button i use for mouse look, mouse or keyboard. My mouse is USB, I have tried 4 different USB slots and tried using the PS/2 connection but all outcomes are the same. Leads me to believe its not a hardware problem but rather something in-game or something caused by the OS.

I only have this problem in this game and shadowbane. In SB, its not so bad since they let you bind 4 directional camera buttons to rotate the camera, so while its a hassle and 4 extra buttons to hotkey, its still playable. However Guild Wars had no such option that I could find, therefore the game is basically not playable as I learned in the first 10 minutes it is pretty crucial to be able to look around during a pvp fight. When I ran windows XP, i didnt have this problem in shadowbane. I am unsure about GW as I did not have it when i ran XP.

i had this problem. the screen just kept spinning as soon as i held the button down.

i have an optical mouse... found out there was a hair caught in the damn thing. i just cleaned it up a little bit and it worked fine.

all i can suggest is making sure your mouse is on a good surface for it to work, and make sure the optical bit is clean

He said he's tried different mice, stanzhao.

Try downloading a new copy of SetPoint - or possibly losing it altogether.

i had a similar problem before, where guildwars' camera rotation became extremely sensitive, to the point that a tiny twitch of my fingers will make it spin 360 degrees. i fixed it by reinstalling my graphic card drivers.

it turns out that i could replicate the effect by turning on a specific feature in my graphic card through atitraytools, though i forgot what it was.

Thanks moriz, thats a good lead. I'll start testing the 3D effects 1 by 1, if you by some chance remember that command, I'll drive to Canada and buy you a beer.

keep in mind this is some really obscure feature i turned on, so you won't find it through your nvidia driver software.

Ya I had no luck messing with the settings in the nvidia control panel. Any idea where I could find feature you are refering to or what it related to?

Oh ya, and out of curiosity, what OS were you on?

vista x64.

and yes, those settings are so obscure it would be more appropriate to call them hacks. those settings are listed in the "advanced tweaks" section of atitraytools, which means it interact directly at the driver level.

i think you'll be better served by reinstalling your graphic drivers, and make sure to completely remove it first before reinstalling.

Changing drivers hasn't worked so far, have tried 4 different ones. Anyone know of a good tweaker program for nvidia cards?

I experience the exact same symptoms you describe; holding RMB puts mouselook on super high sensitivity (unusable, worl spins around and leaves camera in awful position upon release of RMB) and single clicking RMB puts camera on an odd angle.

I notice however, that both RMB functions work fine when in full screen mode - I only get this issue when in windowed mode.

I experience the 2 exact same symptoms originally described; holding RMB puts mouselook on super high sensitivity (unusable, world spins around and leaves camera in awful position upon release of RMB) and single clicking RMB puts camera on an odd angle. Multiple RMB single clicks simply worsen the situation.

I notice however, that both RMB functions work fine when in full screen mode - I only get this issue when in windowed mode.

Vista Home Premium, Asus G1S laptop (GeForce 8600M GT), RF keyboard with built in mouse pad.

Sounds more to me like mouse software causing it. Intellipoint by Microsoft can cause the scroll wheel to accelerate when ipoint.exe is running.

Have you tried running the mouse without a driver?

I use an MX518 with Vista 32-bit, but I never installed any mouse driver and I don't have that problem. WindowsXP and Vista don't require a driver - all the buttons (including the dps switcher) work just fine.
