i just got a new computer last year, but i still cant get to the place my derv is stuck in, whenan terrace. i cant get past this in NF, i cant go past the first town in charrlands or anywhere else in EoTN. i need to beat them for money etc etc. i have the inspiron 530 computer. now ive been thinkin of gettin a laptop that will have the power to get past these spots but theyre all over 700 bucks. i didnt want to spend anywhere near 600. Notes: when playing Eotn, some characters faces are darker, like joras, or Gwen, and there is obvious missing blocks when smoke appears, flame, etc. any advice?

Which 530 do you have. There are several, some with integrated graphics. That could be a problem as they can't always handle the 'busy' areas.

Pretty sure there is a section on the gw main page with min specs. If your pc falls below these the best option may be a new graphics card ( assuming that is possible on your pc model).

I have the 530 as well. I can load all maps fine, and play most games on High setting without lag.

I got ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT. Which one you got?

Wow man I can play at like 40 FPS with no graphical lag or problems on my old, half burned out, heat damaged Radeon x1600 why can't people play on GMA cards...

That computer is worlds ahead of what GW needs to function even on reccomended... How bout graphics card?

I'd say go and buy a decent Graphics Card... but apparently your PC only has a 250W PSU, which narrows down the choices considerably. Instead of buying a laptop, I'd spend the money on a Graphics Card and PSU. Unless you really want a laptop.

I'm fairly sure that the integrated graphics card can cope with Guild Wars, although you'll probably experience infrequent lag and certainly crash if you go into very VERY densely populated areas. The only big problem will be that you'll have to run most visual settings really low and it won't look as great.

I say just spend some 70 - 90$ and buy a mid range graphics card to be good to go.

GMA 3100, which coincidently is the one that my guide is made for, is surprisingly bad at handling GW. while it performs quite fast, it's stuck in DX8.1 rendering, which automatically crashes in certain areas of GW. the only way to force DX9 rendering is with the 3danalyzer program.

what's really funny, is the older, weaker GMA 950 can handle GW just fine. i think anet probably forgot the "use software renderer" optimization command for the GMA 3100.

You can either use Moriz Guide for Intel GMA cards and it will enable you to play GW - or you can spend less then $100 and have a new Power Supply and Graphics Card that will let you play GW on MAX settings as well as some other games that you can't even touch with your current graphics. Don't go buy a new laptop just to play GW - if you do you're going to be wasting money.

Get this PSU (it's more than you actually need right now but it's cheap and excellent quality and it gives you room for other upgrades in the future):

Before buying a new power supply, be aware that some Dells use a non-standard power connector on the motherboard. You may have to get a power supply designed for use with Dells. I'm not sure if this one is non-standard - you could compare a standard connector to the ones shown in your manual or http://support.dell.com/support/edoc....htm#wp1581446

The mobo does have a PCIe connector, so you could get a discrete video card for it. Almost anything will perform as well as the on-board - it doesn't have to be fancy. Just make sure it will work with your power supply (watts-wise)

Edit - the connector does appear to be standard, so you could get a bigger power supply.
