Try launching it with the -dx8 command shortcut, I think that resets your graphics options, and then you can remove the -dx8 command after your new settings are successfully saved.

There are only a handful of things that cause a blackload in regards to GPU when you change visual settings (not including resolution changes)
  • First thing that comes to mind is display drivers. Try updating those fully.
  • Second thing is heat (demand to GPU creates more heat) Clean the card and around it, and monitor the temps closely.
  • Third is power (same reason as heat, but lack of power) If this issue is only occurring after eliminating heat as an issue, and only happens when raising AF or AA, it could well be a power issue, but doesn't preclude the 4th reason.
  • Fourth is extensive damage to specific areas of the card (there are quite a few options here, but even if you know the area, the majority of them are unrepairable (the ones that are would require you to have an exciplex and argon laser array... which most people don't have lying around the house.. lol)

...hate to ask the blatantly basic question, but what is your video card? It could be that you have an old (very old) GPU that does not support AA. Are you able to force-turn off AA with your graphics software and then try restarting GW?
