Default Modem vanishes

2day i turned on my pc windows XP SP3 and i had a error in my boot.ini i fixed that(used the back up) started my pc went to connect to the net and my modem and connection to tiscali had gone(speedtouch modem),the modem diagnostics say its connected and no problems so i created a new connection it worked fine,i did a diskcheck when the pc restarted the connection had gone again so i made another new connection it worked. So i restarted my pc to see if that connection would still be there and guess what it disappeared again.i dont want to have to make a new connection every time i boot(i dont have it on 24/7 my last mb caught fire) any ideas?
thanks a lot

Well... An error in boot.ini has nothing to do with your modem connecting being lost. Maybe you just need to reinstall the software and drivers that came with or works with the "speedtouch modem".
