Question Will this play GW on max?

Hello! I was just denied by my parents to play any subscription-based MMO higher than $7.50 (lol Runescape). Well I've been researching and Guild Wars looks pretty interesting. But I'm not sure how well it will play with this computer and monitor I'm getting in 20 days (they're already bought, but they're my B-day/X-mas present ). I'm hoping to play it on maxed everything, tell me what I need (if I need) to upgrade. Anyway here's what I'm getting: (I hope I'm not missing a PC-to-Monitor DVI cable I need to check...)

LG - 20" Widescreen Flat-Panel LCD Monitor W2061TQ-PF (max res: 1600x900, 2ms response time)

EDIT: http://www.krillion.com/xNOP-Compaq-...sktops-CQ5210Y
-or-
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...reg_R1002_USEN

-AMD Athlon II X2 215 (2.7GHz)
-500GB HDD
-Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
-3GB RAM
-NVIDIA GeForce 6150 SE (EDIT: The PC has a PCI Express x16, but like most PCs doesn't say if it has x16 2.0. I think the PC might have a Low Profile x16 slot but I'm not sure)
-220watt PSU? EDIT: I think I read somewhere it's ATX (12V?)

Any idea how this setup will work? What fps would I get Min/Max?

P.S. How do you think this would play Guild Wars 2?

..Thanks!

It should work flawlessly on that, i guess. GW is quite an old game, so it requires modest hardware in today`s terms.

unfortunately no, that computer is not capable of playing GW at maximum. at least, it won't be able to do so with playable framerates.

What the hell is that GPU? Dear Lord, putting a GPU like that into a machine with a dual-cored 2.7GHz CPU should be punishable by law.

Yeeaaah. Because my 3 or 4-year old laptop doesn't run the game on high. And 10 years ago, 384 MB of RAM? Good luck.

You cannot run GW on max settings with that PC - don't listen to the guys above who say you can.

With that said, the only weak point in the computer is the terrible integrated graphics - that particular chipset struggles to run Aero let alone 3D video games. If that really only has a 220watt PSU then you will need to upgrade it as well. Don't worry though, Compaq/HP, & Dell cheerfully screw people over on a regular basis in this fashion, so don't sweat it. Is it a standard ATX case? It doesn't look like it to me, which will limit your PSU options allot, but not the video card options.

I have an ATI Radeon X850 (which is about the same generation as geforce 6150) and I run GW on max settings in 1600x900. Framerates are anything from 90 to 30.

The basic core machine is not bad, but the integrated graphics won't allow you to run GW at anything near max. But, fortunately, it has a PCI-e graphics slot, so you could upgrade the video.
Unfortunately, the 250 watt power supply will seriously limit your video card choices. It may be upgradable too - depends upon if they use a standard PS or not.

Bottom line is - if it's not too late, try to find something better. Like this one:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Gateway+...&skuId=9156478

It has a 300watt power supply and better graphics, and also has a PCI-e x16 slot with the ability to do hybrid Crossfire.
I'm not sure if the monitor was included with the first one, but if not, the Gateway is only $10 more.
(This still won't play GW at max without an added video card.)

the radeon x850 is dramatically more powerful than a geforce 6150, which from all indications seems to be an integrated version of the geforce 6200 (or is it geforce 6100...). the closest comparison to the X850 would be a geforce 6800GTX

It depends on how many foes you are against. It will run very well with settings maxed, but might give some lag or slow loading times. You will get some massive lag when too many foes or in Kamadan AD1.

First, I'm not buying another PC anyways, because this should DEFINITELY, besides the GPU and PSU, play Guild Wars, and perhaps Guild Wars 2.

EDIT: Specs for Guild Wars by Publisher to show that my PC choice CAN play Guild Wars some:
Minimum System Specification
Windows Vista/XP/2000/ME/98
Intel Pentium III 1.0 GHz or equivalent
512 MB RAM
DVD-ROM drive1
3 GB available HDD space
ATI Radeon 8500 or NVIDIA GeForce 3 series video card with 64 MB of VRAM
16-bit sound card
Internet connection
Keyboard and mouse
DirectX 8
Recommended System Specification
Windows Vista/XP/2000
Intel Pentium 4 2.0 GHz or equivalent
1 GB RAM
DVD-ROM drive1
4 GB available HDD space
ATI Radeon 9600 or NVIDIA GeForce FX 5700 series video card or above
16-bit sound card
Internet connection
Keyboard and mouse
DirectX 9

Ok what if I played Guild Wars on normal/medium/mid-range settings with 1280x1024 resolution? Would I still have to upgrade? What fps would I get?

P.S. And what about that for Guild Wars 2?

P.P.S. Check my (first)original post I made a few changes.

you were asking whether your system can play GW maxed out at 1600x900, and the answer to that is no. you'll be able to run the game, it will start, and you'll be able to play, but in no way should you expect smooth framerates.

as for GW2, i'd say that you'll be able to start the game, but no be able to really play it... unless you think 5 fps is playable.

Ok.. I can run GW at max (meaning, slider all the way to the right, BUT with AA turned off the game still looks great) Post processing affects are on of course too.

2 GB Ram
2.33 GHz Core 2 Duo
Radeon x1600 256 MB (Running at 1680x1050 on 20" Wide Screen)

What I'm saying is....
Build something higher than those specs and you don't need to even bother asking if you can play at max with good FPS.

PS: Waiting for moriz to say i'm lying about this being able to do that...though i'm not lying :P

As for OP.. expect to be building a GW1 computer, but expect to be building a whole new rig for when GW2 comes out, this most likely will never handle it.

EDIT: Btw, when you said, "build something higher," do you mean get a new PC(I said I already have one at home, just w8ing for b-day/x-mas), or upgrade that one??

I said with cpu and gpu upgrade if needed. 3Gb RAM should definitely work for both Guild Wars, there is no problem with the OS, and the cpu is better than an AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600, I think even 6000 (try researching yourself), so idk why you say to build higher for GW, and a whole new rig for GW2...

What about maxed out, except with 1280x1024 res. and mebe no aa on Guild Wars, with a better PSU, and low-profile ready GeFore 9600GT or 9800GT?

That setup should run with good fps for GW on max, and also good fps on GW2 on medium (mebe 1GB more RAM?) ...I think......

your computer (well the one you have but can't use yet) will max out GW if you can get a 9600GT or higher in there, an 8600GT even will perform very well in almost every area with AA turned off. A 9800gt or a hd 4850 would most likely be the minimum to run GW2 on high settings, but that is pure speculation on my part, since it's not out yet.

All you need is a new PSU and a video card. Make sure that your case can take a standard ATX PSU before you buy though - even if you have to wait until you unwrap it and can look for yourself....
