Default Sound Randomly Not Working

Recently, my computer's sound has been acting up. At random times when the computer is running, my speakers will just stop working. I think it may be tied with YouTube or something though. Sometimes I go on YouTube and the little circle on the time bar will go really fast to the end when the video isn't that short (hard to explain). I think it's tied to YouTube because the sound problem seems to happen when the time bar is messed up.

If I restart my computer it kind of resets itself and the sound works again...Wondering if there's something wrong with my speakers or maybe I need to update something?

Hope you can help! Sorry if this is in the wrong section.

EDIT: My iTunes wont even play when this happens. Also, I tried to watch a We Game video off of their site and the time bar was sped up there too! Also, I've scanned my computer with Norton Internet Security 2009 and F-Secure Easy Clean and neither have picked up anything malicious.

Try looking for the sound card in device manager, roll back and reinstall the drivers for your sound card and see if it helps some.

2 options:

1. Update sound drivers
2. Get new speakers

My first guess is something has gone wrong with your sound drivers.

If you have a spare sec of speakers or maybe a headset lying around I recommend switching to those and see if the problem still persists once it happens. If it does, then it is definately a hardware/software issue.

Keep us posted if the problem stays even after switching to a spare set of speakers/headset.

Just tried with my brother's Razer Carcharias headset. Didn't work. Sooo I guess I just download sound drivers?

Apparently other people with my kind of computer (dell xps 400) have had this same problem.
