Default Soundcard playing sound slomotion

I just installed a new sound card, a CM 8738-6CH and the drivers are installed but for some strange reason the sound it plays is like slomotion. If i go on windows media player and try playing a song it just plays really slomo and even the timer on the media player is going slower than real time, also happens on youtube etc so its def something to do with my sound. I tried playing around with the settings but theres nothing on there i can find to fix it. Help please!!! ill give you 10k in game gold if you sort this out for me lol

the only thing that i'm finding when searching that model number is "china sound card". i think you bought something that's so old that it's not compatible with anything anymore. if i were you, i'd return it.

Yeah there's really not enough information about it to help much.

I can't really say what the problem is, could be drivers, maybe you need newer ones (or older ones) than your current, try that first. I don't know where you would go for them since you didn't specify what brand the card was or anything.

Or it could just be what moriz said, who knows.

Definitely sounds like bad drivers. This appears to be a C-Media sound card. I'd try downloading and installing some new drivers from this site:

http://www.cmedia.com.tw/?q=en/driver

Just click on PCI, then 8738, then your operating system. Follow the instructions from there, and you'll download a zip file. Open that up, run the Setup.exe file inside, and follow the instructions.

Then, if it all works, go find me in game and give me that 10K gold bounty! Kidding, kidding! Seriously, let us know if that worked for you, or if you have any other questions.

There could be a "clock" on the card that controls the rate at which the sound data is played back. If this clock for some reason, is operating at 1/2 the frequency it should, that would cause the problem. If that's the case, the most likely fix would be to replace the card.

So, one last thing to try... I'd uninstall the card and move it to a different PCI slot in the computer (if it's near the video card, move it to the far side of the computer if possible). Also, while doing this, see if there are any jumpers that control clock speed or something like that (check the manual if you have that too).

If that doesn't work, I'm completely out of suggestions. I think at that point you'll be down to one option: replacing it with another card. If you bought this from somewhere you can return it, I'd just claim the product is defective and see if you can get credit for a new one, or try a different card.

My soundcard does this, but its not even close to yours.
It will work fine for a while, then somehting happens (usually related to GW or internet-based audio) and my entire computer plays sound in slow motion. Its super creepy....

I have done about 6 clean reinstalls on my computer, and the problem persists. Its an AC'97 something, at least 3 years old, and for laptops.

For some reason, it doesnt usually affect Windows Media Player, though.

Similar situation, or something completely different?

Well my audio never actually goes normal, its just slowmotion 24/7 for any program, so the drivers seem to have installed fine and the graphics card outputs sound, just in slowmotion
