PCI-e 2.0 is fully backwards compatible with PCI-e 1.1/1.0 (which is what you have), so a PCI-e 2.0 x16 card will work on your motherboard. although the PCI-e 2.0 x16 slot does have twice the bandwidth as the old PCI-e x16, there are currently no graphic card that actually utilize that bandwidth, so you won't notice any performance differences (and even if there are, the difference is small enough that you won't notice).

i don't know why you are so facinated with the geforce 8800 GTS. like i said, it is obsolete and you can get much better hardware for your money. if you really want to stick with nvidia, go with a geforce 9800 GTX+. just keep in mind that it uses a dual slot cooler (meaning it can potentially take up two slots on your motherboard, depending on your motherboard layout), it is quite long, and uses two 6-pin PCI-e power connectors from your PSU. alternatively, the radeon HD4850 performs at about the same speed, but is smaller (single slot cooler, and shorter), and uses only one 6-pin power connector.

what i mean is, is that the cooler (that's the funky looking plastic shroud on the card) is so big that it will block off the expansion slot right below the card, hence it taking up two slots. it does not actually require two PCI-e x16 slots to work. the benefits would obviously be better cooling and heat dissipation.
