Question GTX 260 core 216 question

i recently bought this PSU- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817153052

and this graphics card- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150329

now i have a few questions:

1. will that be enough power, 500W, to run the 260?
2. does the 12v rails have enough amps?
3. the GTX 260 require 2 6 pin cables but the PSU only has one, what can i do about this? can i use a molex converter with a spare molex cable from PSU?

That's not enough Juice man. You need to get at least a 650 Watt. Myself, I put an 800 in mine. Just to be sure it's stable. They tell you that you NEED a 630 Watt, however, I wouldn't run it with less than 700W. Especially if your going to run an Core i7 or similar. I understand whole-heartedly that things aren't cheap. Albeit, the PSU is like the Motherboard, you don't skimp on them.

Also, I don't think your listed PSU has the capable AMPS output. I ordered myself a more powerful version of the Card you want, and it needs [email protected] I don't know about the Second 6-pin connector problem. I'm not sure if you could do that, or not. Your listed PSU may be able to run it. It most likely wouldn't be stable if it fired, but again, I'm not sure.

Also, let me forewarn you, these Cards are huge. I'm not even sure a Mid-tower ATX Case would fit one. I use an Antec 1200, which is a Full-size Tower.

if the rest of your system is not very power consuming it will work.

and there are molex to 6 pin converters, i got one with my vga card.

I know there are converters, I did not know if they would work or not. I'm running a Core i7 OC'd @ 3.6 Ghz (see: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115200), which is why I didn't get below an 800 Watt. Also, not to seem insolent, but the ATI 4850 isn't near the Card the GTX 260 is. As a general rule of thumb, Gaming is Nvidia's Zone. ATI doesn't come close.

welll, im not running something very powerful like core i7, im running a simple but solid e8400 wolfdale, ddr2 800mhz ram and mid end things like that, most likely without and over clocking. and the rest of the things arent too power hungry, im using a antec 300 case, hopefully itll be big enough.

500-600watt would be perfect for you. If you're planning on running the card on single and have no plans to run crossfire/SLI, a ~550watt PSU is plenty. The ONLY reason a larger PSU is needed is if you're running Duel/Tri/Quad SLI setups, and loads them selves would be <400watts. But a single card won't have such high loads. Those of you who purchased those high PSUs are wasting power and money. No offense.

So in short, a large wattage psu is needed if any or all of these conditions apply.
Quad overclocked CPU, or Core i7/New Phenoms
Crossfire/Tri/Quad setups on anything higher then a 9000 series or HD4k series
You run A LOT of hard drives.
You have A LOT of DVD drives, or other thikngs in your case like lighting.

If no, then you don't need a large psu. The reason lots of folks say "oh get a large one" is that they have no idea, or have never done the calculations on how much load they need. Like what is the wattage rating for the cpu? Fans? Video Card? HDDs? DVD drives? Add them all up, and add ~100watts.

well unfortunately i checked the amps on the 12V and it seems its 14a and 15a on each 12V rail respectively which adds to 29a while the minimum for the card is 36a which blows because im out of money now and cant buy a new PSU.

Yeah, that's a lame PSU, your system would be unstable on that with the GTX 260. It should still be possible to return it, how long ago did you buy it?

doesn't come close? since when? last time i checked, radeon 4870 is neck and neck with a gtx260, with the 4850 beating the 9800GTX.

the 4850 is weaker than a gtx260, but then again, 4850 is now less than $150, while gtx260 is still around $200.

btw, a quality 500W power supply can handle the GTX 260 just fine. unfortunately the OP apparently doesn't have one. my advice is: shoot for the 500-600W range, and look for a quality manufacturer (corsair, antec, etc).

ye thats why i got the corsair PSU, the one in the $1000 computer, its got ~600W and 52A on the 12V rail i believe, even though thats only what the manufacturer say and not the actual voltage/ 12. it should be plenty good, just need it to be here tomorrow.
