Default Power Saving Mode

Hey,

I hope some of you can help me out on this one.
So this morning I powered on my computer, as usual. And the screen remained black with a blue box in the middle of the screen saying "power saving mode". The computer itself is running fine, I could hear the start-up jingle and people on msn talking to me.

So I started googling on my iPod hoping to find a solution, which I didn't find.
I did find some suggestions such as: taking out the RAM and Graphics Card and putting them back in. So I did that and guess what, same story. So I tried 2 other monitors and again, same story.

Computer specs:

Q6600 @ 2,4GhZ
8500GT (512 MB)
2 GB RAM (can't find nor remember what brand)
LG L1919S Monitor
Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit

I hope someone has a solution or can atleast tell me what is going on.

Thanks in advance,

Boy

Can you see the text during POST? It could either be a bad VGA/DVI cable or a bad graphics card. Let's hope it's the former and not the latter.

Have you tried booting into safe mode? If it boots into safe mode and the video works, the graphics driver is dead.

Are you using the same VGA/DVI cable when you tried the different monitors? You also might want to try a different cable.

Thanks for your response.

Yes I've tried different cables and booting into safe mode using f8, which won't help because I can't see anything from the moment I boot. Can't see post either.

That's not good.

Do you have another video card you can pop in to see if the current card is dead? I doubt it's a RAM issue since it wouldn't make it past POST if you had bad sticks of RAM installed.

Nope I don't have another card laying around atm.
I think I'll pay a visit to the local techsquad to make sure it's the card.
(already had the feeling it was the card )
