Default Graphics / No distance view

This one is kinda tough because I'm trying to help someone remotely... I wont be able to get my hands on their laptop for a few weeks, but they just installed GW and apparently the graphics work, but they can only see items and people that are very close up...no distance view at all. If I move a very short distance away, they lose sight of me, and also cannot see mobs that are within shooting range unless they run in on them. Its on a fairly new Dell Inspiron running Windows 7. I dont know what graphics card or driver yet.... but if anyone has ever experienced this, pls let me know how you fixed it. Thanks !

Ingame --- "F11" will bring up the graphics options menu, try adjusting the settings there.... should work.

Odd, but it sounds just like the view you get when you are dead and watch the game through a hero or hench. Therefore, my first guess is a corrupted GW install - so I'd suggest a complete re-install of guild wars by downloading the client followed by a "-image".

We did the graphics options stuff (over the phone) and compared with my settings, they were the same. We tried a few changes, did the auto detect button, etc. Didn't help. I noticed after I got off the phone last night that the opening login panel has a test computer option. I did this on my box and see it runs through some diagnostics and generates a report, which includes display driver, directX information, etc.... I think that's going to be my next step on the bad box.
