i had the same problem. i compressed the files using " -image" at the end of the command line and it loaded up as usual.

edit: just incase that was a bit vague, right click your gw icon --> properties

In the "Target:" tab you should see something similar to this ; "C:\Program Files\Guild Wars\Gw.exe"

type -image after this line leaving a space after the " and run GW. The new update files should be compressed. Then revert the command line back to how it was to run GW as normal.

im srry if i seem a lil slow.. but im not the most tec savy person youll ever meet... but what is -image? i put that into the search thing for files on my comp and i came back w/ like 10,000+ things w/ that xD. any idea...

edit: also, whats a command line? it seems like a military term... i can see someone yelling at their computer"get ur lazy @$$ outta bed and get in a command line now!"

edit2: dont see a "target tab" but i see a spot i can type in under the "general tab" that refers to location so im gonan try that lol

edit3(getting to be alot of edits lmao): it seems you could onlyhover over that locations.. and besides that i dont seem to see the "target tab"

edit4: ok i did the -image like u said.. it didnt do anything. i might have been a bit confusing in my first post so im gonan re-adress the problem. i got the update, but when it finished it wouldnt connect to anreanet. hope this helps

I have no idea if it will work, but i'm solely commenting on the command line topic.

Go to where you have a Guild Wars program located, and create a copy of it (right click option)

Then on the copy, rename it something like "Gw Updater", literally anything you want.

On the copied version, right click and go down to Properties.

In the middle of the new interface opened, you should see something like;

Target: "C:\Users\...\Documents\Guild Wars\Gw.exe"
Change into:
Target: "C:\Users\...\Documents\Guild Wars\Gw.exe" -image

Make sure it is exactly how I said, otherwise it will not work.

Just remember to remove the -image tag when you want to actually run the game. Personally, I keep two shortcuts around (one with -image and one without), so that I can use the -image at any time, and then run the game without needing to change the properties again.

I think there has been a problem with your hosts file. I had the same problem a while back and it was because somehow some entries in the windows hosts file were wrong. Look up how to view or edit your hosts file maybe yours got messed up too somehow.
