Default Connection Issue

OK,

So I'm incredibly computer illiterate and I need some help from you guys. I currently live in two different places (about 100 miles apart if that makes any difference). I play GW on my laptop in one of the locations just fine. However, at the second location (using the same laptop) GW won't even load. When starting the program I recieve the message:

"Unable to Connect. Guild Wars is unable to connect to the ArenaNet network. Please verify that your internet connection is working, or try again in a few minutes."

The weirdest part about this is that I cannot even load GW's homepage on my browser. The connection is definitely connected and working, but it appears to hate anything officially GW related.

The two locations both have different ISP's and i use wireless through a router at both locations.

I can't imagine this could be an issue with my computer, otherwise I wouldn't be able to connect to GW at all. So, with that in mind, does it have something to do with the router at the location that refuses to give GW respect?

Hope you guys can help me out, because this is pretty frustrating.

Hmmmm, the only thing that comes to mind is some one banned access to the server.

What about some computer specs, maybe that will help a little.

By computer specs do you mean the hardware and such of my computer? I could tell you if you want a good laugh, but I really think this problem concerns the DSL at this place I'm trying to connect through.

I've been playing with it and looking at my firewall settings and ports and what not, but I don't think they'd have anything to do with it since I connect just fine at my other place.

Is there some way I can tell the router here where GW doesn't work to allow access to GW? Or is it some ISP issue?

The router doesn't usually have an effect on GW, unless someone specifically set it up to block GW (not likely). I've never had to do any setup in a router to allow GW.

You don't give much detail on the 2 locations, so what comes to mind is:

Are you connecting through a school or work network (where it doesn't work)? Some schools/businesses may block access to GW. Also, it was mentioned in another thread that GW can appear to be a P2P client (file sharing) and some schools/businesses will try to block P2P traffic. Try to contact the IT people and get them to allow GW through.

If the non-working place is just another ISP, it's possible that the ISP is trying to block P2P transfers, or the ISP may have some internal routing issues that affect GW. In that case, you need to contact them.

So basically, your computer works. It has to be your connection. Contact the supplier.

No. Neither of my residences rely on internet provided through school or a work place. One ISP is comcast (which works fine). The other ISP is some back woods DSL thing.

I guess I'll have to call the faulty one and lay down the pimp hand.

On another note, I mentioned that I cannot only connect to the game client, but I also cannot open Guildswars.com or wiki.guildwars.com (at the DSL place. These sites works fine on my browser when connected through comcast). Is this because those sites use the same servers as the game client which are potentially being blocked?

Thanks again for all the help.

ISP issue. Apparently NCSoft banned a whole subnet and I happen to be in it. Good times.

Thanks for the help guys.

problem is likely here.
change your DNS (go here for how to do that) to the same DNS that you are using on your comcast or use OpenDNS's servers:

208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220

if it works, problem solves & your ISP needs to fix their DNS servers.

if that DOESNT work do a tracert but where the instructions say domain.com use a guildwars server. copy and paste the results of the traceroute here.
