Default pen drive

How can I check how old is my pen drive? I have recently purchased a new pen drive- Kingston DataTraveler. I had not used it at all. One of my friend took it from me and has returned it to me after a week. I doubt that he has changed it with some old one as mine was brand new. Can I check how old is the pen drive? Whether it was used for long time etc? There are no files existing on the present pen drive in my possession.

well i'm not sure if this will work. if you still have that box/blister package that the pen drive/usb drive came with afaik there are combinations of letters and numbers on it. check if it is a match on the paper it came with. just a guess.

Check that the capacity of it is still the same. Also beware of viruses, I'm not saying you're friend would intentionally infect you. My brother gave me a copy of Shutter Island which was on his pen drive, sadly there was a virus lurking on it too which jumped onto my comp

Tbh as long as it has the same capacity and works, it wouldn't bother me if your questionable friend has swapped for an older one if I was in your shoes

Usually pen drives don't fail for casual users, copy a few files here and there. It's probably more likely you lose it or buy a better one. It's another thing if it's used constantly (ie. live OS etc).

In other words, I wouldn't worry if it happens to be an older stick as long as it's same capacity.

plug it in and format it, then you don't have to worry about it - age doesn't matter, it won't fail for a long long time unless it's physically abused...
