Just searched the ATI driver update site, latest version appears to be 10.7:
http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_ca...indows-7-64bit
If that doesn't solve it, do you receive any error messages or warnings?

Is your Windows 7 up to date? And are you able to get to task manager (ctrl+alt+del) while in this black screen?
I had a similar black screen when I first booted GW on my windows7 this past weekend. (It was a fresh installation of GW on a new computer.) I had to forcefully reboot the computer, but after the reboot and software updates, I haven't been having any problems.
As some-1 already mentioned, try updating all your drivers.

They are the drivers I have, the package is 10.7 but the actual display drivers themselves show 8.753.
And no it just happens with no warning messages (ocaisionally it doesnt black screen just sticks on whereever I was at the time). But its always permanent, no way out of it using task manager etc.

I have been hear about people having trouble with the most recent set of ati drivers...while I don't remember what was going on and what not...you could try older drivers...
Also..I have had a similar problem recently where it did a similar thing...and really my comp was just getting pissed at me for trying to go to an akward resolution...so make sure the in game resolution syncs with your monitors...

If you already have the latest drivers then it could be an issue with them as End said. It might also be worth opening your case up and cleaning any dust out just in case the card is overheating.

Make sure all of your drivers and Windows are up to date. Just because the screen goes black, doesn't mean it's the graphics driver that is causing the problem.

All that new-ish gear and the latest OS and the fix is to run it in DX8 mode?
Bizarre.
