Arrow another "help me, i dont know jack thread"

i've read a few threads on the topic of the intel r series card and that 512 memory is ideal for these crappy cards. but i had no idea what was going on in those threads. i know NOTHING about pc hardware
i thought the only to forms of memory were for your hard-drive (500gb) and your ram (3.9gb)
im pretty ignorant about anything computer related as i only use it for school work and music. as you can tell by my name i am a console gamer, but will be making the leap to pc in a month or two and get a 900-1200$ pc to use for my music editing/recording and gaming (basically, to totally geek out)

so im just going to post the specs of my pc and if those are kind enough to help out I would truly appreciate it (sorry for contributing to this very tired subject)
thanks

THIS IS A GATEWAY LAPTOP

This was really all we needed to know. You can easily run GW on your laptop with good frame rates, especially if you plan on using minimum specs

It should be pointed out that your video card is an integrated chipset and is NOT good for gaming. Nothing ever made by Intel (video card wise) has ever been good for gaming. With that said, GW is an old game now and I'm guessing that's an INtel 4500 GMA? If so you should be able to play the game with acceptable framerates on minimum or even medium settings (no AA) in most areas. There are some areas of NF & EoTN that may crash or worse when you try to go there. That tended to happen more on Intel chipsets prior to the 4500 series and there are workarounds for it as well, but you should be aware of the possibility.

The hard drive is not what would properly be called "memory" - it's "storage".
In a typical PC there are two main types of memory. There is the main RAM (your 3.9gb) used by the CPU where programs are "run". Modern CPUs also have internal "cache" RAM, which can be considered and extension of main RAM.
There is also "video RAM" which is used by the GPU/video card to compose frames, store textures, etc. Modern video cards will have there own RAM on the card. Some laptops will have "discrete" video RAM for use by the video chip.
In many cases, such as your integrated Intel graphics (other wise known as Crappy Graphics ), the video circuits or chip will share a part of the main RAM for video use. The amount of shared RAM can usually be set in the BIOS and often defaults to only 64meg. If you want to change the amount of shared RAM, you should check the documentation for your computer to see how to get into the BIOS/setup and/or what settings to change.

Any form of Integrated Graphics is usually very low-end as far as performance goes, but at least those from AMD/ATI or nVidia are game friendly. Intel Graphics are usually not gamer friendly - designed mostly for apps and YouTube video - and you will probably run into problems at some point.

Thank you for that informative response. I'm actually intimidated at the thought of my venture to high end pc's in the near future do to all the data I am simply unaware of. But, ill have to figure it out eventually..

May I suggest that, when you're ready to buy your next PC, you post the specifications here before pressing the "buy" button?
