Hey everyone,

Here's my story. After not playing GW for about two~two and a half years I was thrilled to play it again. So after installing the game and starting up the client, I tried to log in. After not playing for that long I forgot my password, so I tried a couple of passwords that I thought it had to be, but alas no success. So I reset my password and sent it to the game account (email) so I can change it.

Now after resetting my password for the 5th time, I still didn't get any e-mail with notification to change my password, even checked my junk mail. So I wrote a note with the help of NC-soft support web browser. Is it mandatory to have a NC-soft master account while making a account to play GW on? Note I made that account about Q3 of 2006, so lets say four years ago. I can't recall that I ever made a NC-soft master account.

But anyways I've read that other people had this problem too and did it resolve? I just send the note to NC-soft support about two hours ago and I hope I get an answer these days.

If more information is needed, please ask, I'm more then happy to provide it if it helps resolving the problem.

i'm willing to bet your account was stolen while you were away, unfortunately. i hope i'm wrong but, anets security is trash and i see these threads all the time... if your account was taken and the hacker gets caught selling gold or something then it's closed indefinitely. you may get lucky and get your account back, just wait for support to answer you back.

Wow, my account hacked? I always kept my PC clean of viruses, never logged into GW but on my own PC. Can it really be someone just stole while guessing my password? I doubt it.

A while back Anet had a security breach and some hackers made off with the info to a shitton of accounts. Like the above poster said, ArenaNet has a shitty reputation for account security/customer support.

And let me guess, the accounts that are stolen won't get refunded in any way possible? While Arena-net is at fault.

UPDATE: I just got an e-mail back from one of the employees working at NCsoft support. I have to provide some information. But how am I supposed to reply to them? On my e-mail or on the NCsoft support website? And if the latter, I don't see any reply button or what so ever.

If you go to the Austin BBB site and file a complaint, you can usually get a refunded for the cost of the campaigns on a terminated account. Otherwise Arenanet does not offer any form of compensation for improperly suspended or terminated accounts.

If it's a response to your ticket, you should reply to the email. There should be a section in green where you're supposed to respond.

As long as you provide them with the necessary information they should be able to provide you with your account back. Average turn around time for this is usually 2-3 days from knowing people who have been hacked and personal experience.

You could try calling NC Soft support once you send in the requested information, the couple times I've been hacked I've called and they were able to expedite and reactivate my account. Even though the prompts on the phone might state they can't reactivate they can.

Excerpt from NC Soft Support Page.
Call by Phone: Phone customer service for billing and technical issues from Monday through Friday, 12 noon to 5 p.m. CT, by calling (512) 225-6359. Phone support for in-game issues is not available.

In response to ErrantVenture's post, ArenaNet didn't have the security breach it was NCSoft. Only accounts synced with NCSoft had a risk of being compromised. This is what lead to the requirement of the Character Name to log in. In my opinion the worst security move Arenanet made was merging their accounts with NCSoft.

It is NCSoft that is to blame not ArenaNet.
