I'm running Guild Wars on my MacBook Pro and whenever I hit Command (which is my "show all allies key") and W, the program closes. I've googled how to change this key and the only thing that came up was to to disable it in Safari, and I even tried adding Cmd+W as an application shortcut, which didn't do anything.

This is super annoying when I'm running around town and I try to find a merchant and the game closes, does anyone know how I can just straight up disable this command? I don't even use it anyway.

You could switch "show allies" to control instead or you could check the key commands of the program you are using to run GW on your mac

Why don't you just run boot camp on your Mac so you can run games through Windows normally? It's native too, no emulators. I did it for 4 years and it worked out just fine. Just a suggestion though.

Oh, and I don't think there is a way to disable it. Command+Q is hard coded into OS X, its the keystroke combo to quit applications.

Well, I have that set for Show Enemies or whatever the command is called. I'd like the option to use the Option and fn keys, but GW won't recognize them.

Because it costs money once the trial runs out. And don't I have to buy Windows software for that anyways?

Bootcamp is not trial software...... it's free and unlimited software that comes with OS 10.5.x and above. It was a "trial" in OS 10.4 when I did it a lot, I had to reset the OS X clock in order to use it again, lol. There is no trial today though, you're thinking of Parallels or VMWare. Parallels is emulation, not for gaming. Bootcamp helps you create (and or delete) a windows partition without even reinstalling OS X, Install Windows on this partition and when you boot, you hold down the Alt button to select partition. Windows at that point, boots and runs totally native with no trace of OS X running.

Yes you do have to buy Windows to install with Bootcamp, that's the downside but there is no special version....XP SP2 or above, not sure about Vista or 7 but im imagining the base install of Vista or 7 works fine. But if you ever get into more Windows based games you will need to get Windows eventually. Crossover or Wine, whatever you're using to run GW, will not work with every game you toss at it.

Just a friendly suggestion from someone who gamed on a mac for almost a half a decade with Windows and several Windows only games.

Oh and you can create a drivers CD with bootcamp if you don't have a Leopard or Snow Leopard DVD, because you will need the hardware drivers for Windows for your Mac. It's all really quite simple if you experience it for yourself.
