Default How do I use 1 mouse/keyboard with 2 computers simultaneously

Hi, I'm trying to figure out how i can play 2 characters simultaneously on 2 different computers.
I know there are kvm switches that I can switch the mouse/keyboard control between the two computers, but that's not what i'm looking for.
Is this possible?

It's definitely possible, but how you do it depends on what your specific needs are.

Synergy might be something like what you're looking for.

I have a friend who plays on 3 comps/3 accounts all at the same time without using bot programs, I will ask him.

This usually works perfect for me except that it always minimizes GW on my main computer when I switch screens, so I have to keep it in windowed mode.

I used to dual box using Keyclonehttp://www.solidice.com/keyclone/

But that synergy looks better, since I usually use the mouse for movement when playing solo. Keyclone justs send 1 input to multiple diffrent computers or multiple programs on the same computer.

My computer can run two instances of guildwars on highest setting and run completely fine, gw isnt very gpu and cpu intensive for todays computers.
I am running Windows 7 that allows do divide windows evenly. I have both programs take up half of my screen. I would alt tab in between.

with the 7 hero update I pretty much stopped dual boxing though, its a load off my mind.

Thanks for the quick input fellow gamers.
So to be more specific I want both characters using the same skills and movements at the same time as one another. I was planning on creating 2 ele's with simultaneous nukes. I've seen Synergy but I thought it just allows you to use two computers and switch between the computer by dragging mouse over, kind of like a kvm switch.

Look up dual boxing.
I used keyclone a long time ago so there might be better programs out there like octopus.

Maybe my information will help, when I used keyclone I was running a ranger spike build. my 3 rangers pretty much shared the same skills except for different utility skills.
so for example, if I wanted all my rangers to use barrage at the same time I would assign barrage to skill slot one and input 1 and they would all use barrage simultaneously.

I found it very hard to move them all using the wads keys, even if they where all standing in the same place. the slight delays/lag made them always get out of place. It felt like controlling a slow clunky tank, you would have to make sure your heroes are bundled close together, press W stop then rotate then press W. I had to pretty much move with a "leader" and have the followers space follow, then call a target with the leader then spike. The more characters you control the harder it gets and more inefficient it becomes.
It starts to be more like a RTS than a mmo, two players is a sweet spot.

So my inputs playing the game was like this
move the leader with the mouse.
(forget the key) select party leader 1 across all characters then space
Call target with leader then press T
(all characters select same target)
1 2 3 etc (fighting phase)
rinse and repeat.

If that's what you're looking for, then an application that clones key presses (like Jack Blade mentions) is what you'll want.

I used to use Keyclone for running multiple instances of WoW, but since it's a paid app, you might want to look at free/open source alternatives.

(Before I got Keyclone) I remember using an AutoHotKey script that did a similar job but it was on one machine, not two, so I'm unsure as to whether it supports cloning the key presses between multiple computers.

It's been forever since I've had to use such programs, but there are definitely some out there that can do what you're looking for.

-Edit-
HotKeyNet seems like it might do the job.

Also, there are some thing you should be aware of:
As Jack pointed out there are certain things you'll need to account for, such as the inability to efficiently move all characters at once with movement keys, but a simple fix for that is a "Target P1" macro and then Space to follow.
It might take a while to get a good setup going (but just two characters isn't much of a problem).

You should also be careful about Anet's view on using such programs. Since you're at the computer, playing, it might not be much of an issue ...but you might just want to check with support first.
(Although their most positive answer might be a very vague "we can ban you for it, but we may not" kind of thing.)
It was a similar situation multiboxing in WoW, where they didn't exactly condone it, but didn't really punish for it either.

thanks for all your help guys, I think I can slowly figure it out after looking at these programs and such.

How do I run two instances of gw on the same computer then?

I think Synergy is targeted specifically at multiple computers.
For a single PC, you'll want something closer to what casterstylee was originally asking for (such as Keyclone or HotKeyNet that were linked to earlier in the thread).
Almost all programs like that have support for single and multiple computers running more than one copy of a game.
Also, as I mentioned earlier, you can also use an AutoHotKey script that does the same job (which, I think, is strictly limited to a single PC running multiple applications).
