Default Missing Hard Drive Space

Hey Guys, hopefully you can help me here, as I am totally and utterly confused...

I recently built a new PC (4 days ago) and I am running a 60GB Solid State drive as my primary, and a 1.5TB Seagate Barracuda as my secondary.

The Drive is 60 GB, if I run a properties on it, it only shows 23 GB used, and tells me I have 23 GB free space. The maths do not add up to me, as 23+23 is 46 < 60.

I have disabled the paging file, as I am running 16 GB of ram.

The Previous Versions utility is only using 1.23 GB Max.

I ran a Disk Cleanup, and there is no files to be deleted.

My question is... WHERE IS MY 14 GB!!!

I realize that some of it is reserved system space... but 14 GB worth???

PC Specs...

Windows 7 Professional

Asus P8Z68 Deluxe / Gen3 w/ DDR3 1600 Motherboard

Intel Core™ i7-2600K Processor, 3.40GHz

eVGA Ge Force GTX 570 HD 2.5GB GDDR5 Graphics Card

Corsair Vengeance 16GB Ram 4x4GB

Patriot Pyro SE 60 GB Solid State Drive (Drive with the missing space!!!)

Western Digital 1.5TB 7200RMP Sata Drive

Any chance you particianed that drive? And Im not sure about RAM/Solid state drives, but could there be something wrong with it. Grab the exact model number and check places like newegg.com for buyer reviews to see if there info on missing memory. If anything like that has happened before, people will report it there.

If you had 32 gigs, I'd say they might have boxed the wrong SS drive.

yeah we got that. what i was saying is to go check newegg reviews for possible defects. my understanding of ram drives is that they use ram chips so if some are bad or whatever, you might not be able to use all of it. IDK exactly how it works so try newegg to see if anyone else has the same problem with the same drive. it's a quick way to get info.
google is also your friend.
someone here might know exactly what is wrong with your drive, but in the mean time a little research could give you the answer.

I'm glad you found out about the hibernation thing. Keep in mind that there also always appears to be a space loss when you compare the advertised size with what Windows shows you. This is because both the manufacturer and the operating system actually use different measurement units (more info here). This is why, for example, 500GB drives actually show up as 465GB. In your case though, with 60GB, it should show a total capacity of ±56GB.

Yeah, it's the "Manufacturers use 1000 MB as a GB, whereas windows uses 1024 MB as a GB"
