Default wtfpwned?!?

PvP question here...

I have only been playing for 2 days, so I have to admit, I really don???t know what I am doing yet. But I must wonder if there is a certain PvP build that totally wtfpwns everyone else? I used one of the warrior/necromancer pre-made builds I think and stepped out on the battle field ready to lay down the pain. I have played on EQ Zek Servers for years and other FPS games like "UT" and "Planetside", so I am not new to the PvP scene... I engage in battle with one of the enemy (cloth wearing type) and figure it would be an easy target with my big swords and heavy plate armor. I was wrong... I don't think I even did any damage to the other player over several seconds while he proceeded to take my life down in chunks! I was like...wtf?!? Total fight for our team lasted about 2 minutes.

... /reset mission - (must have been a fluke right)

Run into battle and engage other side.... in about 30 seconds flat, my entire team wiped!! We didn???t even have time to try our skills out, we were just outright murdered! I think I myself was 1 shot to death.

Are those pre-made builds crap...or was I competing against a player that has leveled their character up and has uber strength and gear vs. the pre-made template characters? I can't imagine it was skill (mine anyway) because I didn't have time to use any.

Thanks for any insight.

no there is no 'i win' template

you need to be smart and develop a strategy to be successful

if you're always losing you're probably not playing smart and need a better strategy.

you've only been playing for 2 days so it will be very hard for you to enter the arena against players that have spent a few weeks playing 5 or more hours per day perfecting their strategies, building team rapport, and knowing their primary and secondary skills extremely well.

I've been playing every day since release, but only pve. i'm now engaged in the trials of ascension. When i get done with that, i'll have a good knowledge of my build, and be prepared to enter into the pvp arena.

No, there is no ultimate build. The game is completely balanced and there is a counter to everything.

What you did lack is skill. Charging in is hardly ever the way to go about things and if you had any healers on their team they should have done their job. Also, you were talking about the elementalist, the most powerful (damage giver wise anyway) build in the game. However, it's minus is that it's incredibly weak. If you weren't able to slice away life from it, they had a monk backing them up.

Well, I didn???t rush the enemy alone; we approached the enemy as a unit. As far as a Monk healing the elementalist... I don???t think that is the case because he was not losing then gaining hit points...he was just not losing any (at all). Now granted...I lasted longer in that fight so I don???t know if he was an Elementalist or not. The second fight I described was where I was killed so fast..that may have been an Elementalist...but can they really 1 shot a tank in PvP ???

this thread is too limited to discuss every possible attack an elementalist could launch at you...and how do you know only he hit you? most reams use foccussed fire in this game...meaning they call a target and kill it asap...organized teams often have very, very specialized members. and it could very well be that an elementalist has all his attributes in one thing, and has a favorite elite skill specifically designed to flatten tanks.

you need knowledge that can only be gleened by playing for hours and hours and hours with an organized team.

With enough firepower from enough people, yes.

However, there is a spell that can counter that by not allowing more then 10% damage to be inflicted by a single attack. There are others that increase the armour, increase HP, make the HP gain quite fast and heal for a certain percentage of the enegry cost of the spell you just cast. Stacked on top of each other, you can create the illusion of things being completely invincible.

Some matches can last about tens of seconds where so much damage is done to a team that isn't ready for such a barrage of attacks. Others can last up to 10-20 minutes of solid fighting because both teams are ready for the initial shock and if you can hold out that long, the barrage eventually slides out to a more manageable state and then it's really up to the team who can survive the longest. Each team taking turns in trying out something different to put the other team off from their routine which is keeping them alive without dropping from their current routine which keeps them on the same level.

It's hard, it's fast paced and it gets the blood pumping. I much prefer fighting with teams that last for long minutes as it truely brings out the best in both teams.

unlike many other games out there, balance issues are taken very seriously in this game. if you would like to learn more about character builds or strategy i suggest you look to the Halls of Knowledge.
