Thumbs down What a stupid game!!

Got GuildWars and started playing today. Bought it to play with two real-life friends. So far it's a rather stupid game.

First, we can't form a party of three at the beginning. Only two to a party at the beginning. Why?! We each logged on this evening to play together and had to play solo doing different missions as directed by Tydus etc.

Secondly the moment we entered Old Ascalon we got totally wipped as level 2/3 players. Jumped on by five level 4-5 monsters means death. There's no warning that characters below a certain level will get beaten up. Of course, getting to that level has to be done without one's friends, because we're not allowed a party...

Thirdly, missions seem to be per individual and NOT per party. It's awkward getting missions as we stand around like lemons asking "what mission have you got?" "Have you got this one?" "I've got to go here." We ended up in Ascalon following one member who had a mission when we hadn't got a mission. We'd go that way for him to get a bonus but we wouldn't. Doesn't matter because we got wipped, but still, if one in a party has a mission, completion of the mission should benefit everyone, no?

Finally, information is sparse. You're dumped right in and there's no mention anywhere of which missions lead where and stuff. eg. My friend and I spoke with Tydus. He gave us different people to see. That instantly broke our two-man party up and we had no idea when to meet up again. The manual is very sparse on these points. It's all very well having a manual 'in character' but I'd rather have complete documentation on meeting people, forming parties, going on missions, what are story missions and what aren't. We were going to work through the story together but really it's three individual experiences rather than one party experience. It's not at all how I expected it to be (form party, leader talks to folk to get missions, blah blah.) The lack of a demo is criminal in this case I'd have liked to have seen information in the manual saying "No parties at first act. Second act requires level 5+ chars. Missions aren't group based..."

So far, rather disappointing. It's going to be many hours of play before we get to actually play co-op, which is the only reason we all bought this game. I don't understand how developers can make such a mess of the basics of co-operative gaming

In order to be the first person to comment without yelling at you, I will say that you had a long, long chance to demo the game. They'd been having beta weekends since late last year. That was your opprotunity to test it with very little commitment to buying the game. Anyway, I'd watch what I say on fansite forums if you don't want to get flogged. Also, where are you going with this? Are you trying to make everyone suddenly realize that this game they've been playing and love is a peice of crap? Just some things to think about.

sir tydus gives your friends different quests because you have different professions, and as such you have to talk to different guys (why would a warrior have monk, ranger and mesmer skills?), you should be at least level 3 or higher when you get to post-searing ascalon so I had no problems with it (although I was a level 5 at the time), the smaller parties are because the enemies are easier and you don't need a large party untill post-searing. give it a chance, things make sence if you take the time to think them through, after all 4 levels 3/4's can easily take on a couple level 4 gargoyles or some such.
EDIT: and no info? look up at the stickies.

Haha.

Yeah.. you should at least have an IQ of 50 before trying to play Guild Wars. :P

Just kidding... kind of.

But, everything you're complaining about is quite dumb.

First, well, it's understandable but you can just get a henchman and level to 5 in less than an hour and go to Old Ascalon.

Second, who the hell needs a warning that you'll get beatup by a higher level monster?! This game does require some skill also, you know.

Third, you haven't been on a mission yet. Everyone has the same mission when you're doing it, but right now you're still doing quests.

Finally, you need common sense.

Sorry, your post made me laugh.. and I don't really mean to be mean.

i dont even own the game yet (will purchase today ) but you sound like a fag...lol no offense, but u hardly would need to party at like lvl 3...and there are probably bunches of sites that have mission information such a www.l2orphus.com for lineage II quests and such, i think you just need take a bit out of your time and think, cuz your probably clicking off all the NPC chat bars when you get the mission thing so u have no idea wtf to do >.0

Oh, and your post wasn't a question, rather, it was more of a rant. Should've posted this in the Riverside Inn.
