they get the money by fighting in the HoH and selling the sigils. Another way is to spend all day doing business, buying top shelf items for deals and selling them for more. I can't seem to get the hang of it, maybe I should spend more time in the Fissure collecting shaddow and chaos items, or just figuring out what people want. I've been farming the breach for charr hides, but that only goes so far for the time spent. Maybe I'll spend some time in the Wilds mission killing spiders for the legs and webs, the legs are great in trade in Druid's overlook and the webs salvage easily to silk. Eh...i'm no businessman, especially in such a competitive world where only gold items seem to sell, even in ascalon city. Newbies come out of pre-searing with 500g in their pockets looking to buy the 1337 15-22 firey dragon swords and wont take anything less, which is what they can actually afford and is still 10 times better than what they currently have or will get in the near future.

End rant.

Get gold by farming the HoH. I can sell a sigil to a trader for around 72,000g (per last night's prices) and I can walk away with between 8 and 15 sigils every night. But honestly, who wants gold anyways? I've nearly filled up my storage, and I use it to buy other people's time. I hire farmers, so if you need gold, and can reliably kill ettins, send me a pm.

Talking Money Making.

Its all about playing the economy. I have ammased a small fortune now, 554,000Gold. And i will tell you all several ways in which i did so.

1. Petty Cash Farms
There are several places around the world where you, as level 20, can bash ur way through everything no problem. All that crappy loot = money. Not alot but some. Some simple runs ive done in the past are:

Nebo Terrace (located from Beetletun)
The Run.

What you fight
Mostly Mergoyles, Aloes, and Fire imps. Levels ranging from 10-13. Bring a Fire weapon.

What they drop
Mostly wands and gold.

In the Map
There are 3 Chests in this run, and 1 Barrel. The 1st chest usually drop a couple crap items, the second 2 chests usually drop gold, ranging from 60gp to 130gp. The Barrel drops items and i would say 1 in 5 tries it drops a gold or purple item.

In the End
Take everything back to Beetletun, Make sure you identify EVERYTHING, even with nothing to identify. Identifying white items will reveal a "true price". If you sell an item unidentified to a merchant he always cheaps you out of about 5-6 gold. By identifying everything you can get the max profit.
Sell everything, salvage nothing.
This run will bring in on average 1 platinum in crappy items and gold.

Piken Square (Ascalon Territory)
The Run

What you fight
Almost entirley Charr and the odd Devourer.

What they drop
Pretty much everything, wands, weapons, artifacts, salvagable items. But what you are here for are Charr Hides and Charr Carvings. Picking up all the loot in this mission will fill your packs up fast. Take what you can and sell, but make sure you grab all the hides and carvings.

In the Map
The map has several high concentrations of Charr. Some on the paths, but the big one is in the Gorge to the south. I have tried all dmg type except Lightning on Charr, and ironically enough, Fire seems to be the most effective. There are several Wreckages the will pop up random crap, nothing really to be concerned with. The run take 10-20 minutes.

In the end
You came for Carvings and Charr Hides. You will on average come away with 15-17 Hides, and 18-20 Carvings. Salvage the Carvings with a regular salvage kit. The will yeild 1 Wood Which can be used later in another money making method. The Charr Hides could be expert salavged for Fur, but there is a much more efficient way to get Fur from them.
Bring your Charr Hides to this crafter in Ascalon, right next to the merchant.

She will give you 1 Fur Square for 4 Charr Hides. Assuming you made 16 Charr Hides on the run, you will get 4 Fur Squares. Depending on demand for fur (usually higher in ascalon), you could sell this fur for 800-1000 gold. Plus all the other loot you brought. This Run will net you around 2 Plat.

There Are MANY other little cash farms you can do quickly, these are just 2 examples, you may find others with higher profit yeilds.

2. High Risk, High Yield Farms
These runs are genrally much harder to accomplish alone, but can yield very high profit.

Prophets Path (located from Augury Rock)
The Run

What you fight
There a few groups of wandering level 20 Minotaurs, either in groups of 2 or 3. In the big open area you will find dozens of level 21 Griffons, and 1 boss griffon, 2 if you have the Sacred Griffon quest. Also throughout the map will spring up groups of 2 or 3 or more Rockshot Devourers. Watch out for the traps. They can stack them and you go boom.

What they drop
The Minotaurs can drop items, some purple and gold, but are more likely to drop Horns, Hides, or gold. The Horns can be sold for 25gp each, the hides can be salvaged for rare leather squares. Gold is dropped in quantities of 60-130+. The rockshot devourers can also drop items, but more often than not you will get Bleached Carapaces or gold. The carapaces sell for 25gp each. The real reason you are here are for the Griffons. These suckers drop gold and purple items almost as much as the Lightning Drakes in the gates of Kryta Mission. These gold items can net you big bucks if you get lucky, they are also known for dropping the odd Fiery Dragon Sword. These items are pretty much what you're here for.

In the map
As stated above, watch out for roaming Minotaurs and sneaky Rockshots, they can turn the tides of a battle very quickly. It's easy to get overwhelmed in this run if you aren't careful. Each run takes from 15-25 minutes.

In the end
If you have a crap run, you still yield about 2+ plat of profit. A good run or even a great run, which happen enough to justify the bunk runs, can bring in, well. The skies the limit i guess. Who knows what you may find, but on average, I have made anywhere from 5-30plat from this run.

This is just another example. This particular run can be solo'd but other high risk high yield runs are everywhere. Many of them must be grouped, which i tend to avoid. The Underworld Runs and Fissure of woe can bring in some great loot. One New run i am toying with is in the Ember Light Camp far of in the Fire islands. The flesh golems there seem to be soloable in large quantities but the odd phantom or mesmer class creature can really screw things up.

3. The Material Stock Market

The Material traders in all towns are run on supply and demand, so the prices of stacks are always trading. you wanna go for the most activly traded items.

In the weekday mornings stacks of steel can be bought for 1900-2000 a stack. During the night they will go higher but generaly not enough to make any profit due to traders buying lower than they sell. The trick is to stock up on steel and other items during the week, and when friday/saterday pimtime hits, the prices can skyrocket upwards of 3000 a stack. This is your cue to sell. Profits can vary greatly but generally a profit of 700-800gp a stack is the norm.
The other key here is volume. Having 2 stacks of steel for instance at the end of the week isnt a whole lot of profit. But the more money you have the more stacks you can buy. The more you sell the more you get. If you manage to buy say 100 units of low cost items during the week, you could be looking at a profit of 10,000. Once you really start making money over time, you can buy more and more.

The week before the long weekend past I knew player volume was going to spike, I managed to buy up 610 Steel during that week. Monday evening of the long weekend steel stacks were selling for 3700 a stack. thats 1700 profit per stack. I had 61 stacks. I made a profit of over 100,000gold on just steel.
Volume and timing is key.

One last thing on the Material Stock Market, obviosly the less money you put into your materials, the more you get. The wood you got from the Charr Carvings can be fashioned into Parchment for a small fee. Parchment can be sold to the trader from 800-1000 a stack. 50 wood makes 1 stack of parchment. To get even more wood, The Nebo Terrace run i mentioned earlier can be used in another way. As stated, the mergoyles in this run drop ALOT of wands, all of which can be salavged for 3-8 wood per wand. All of this wood too can be used in the newly named Parchment runs which are gaining in use by the population. You may have noticed alot more people buying wood in large quantities for no more than 5gp per plank. This is most likey why, parchment.

These are just few ideas for you to start gaining your wealth. The more you figure out how the economy works as a whole, the more ideas you will have to gain money efficiantly. Hope this was some help.

Liner Notes:
All runs were done with a level 20 W/Mo and specific builds for each run.
Loot brought in from runs was done with the main pack, the beltpouch, and 2 bags, both with runes of holding, and almost entirely cleaned out for max storage of loot.

This map should show where Piken Square is in relation to Ascalon better.

I'm having the same problem, here's what I've been doing:

1) get a couple thousand to start out with

2) buy wood planks @ 7-8g each, spend up to half your money, or slightly over. (from people, not traders.)

3) go north of sardelac and craft rolls of parchment for 20g and 5 planks per roll.

4) sell to a trader (one grouping of 10 gives you 50-250 profit)

5) gain money, buying larger amounts of sticks per run.

Yeh, this was a great post, like the farming guide. I didn't know about identifying everything either, thought it was just pointless. Now just need to get enough gold for a sigil......

I've been to HoH but never seen a sigil drop. Does it happen after you win the PVP section?

Indeed. It is a tournament. The sigils drop at the very end once you have actually made it to the hall fo heroes
