I don't know and this is not intended as a scolding, but you will probably receive a much quicker response in the technician's corner forum.

it's just a router...if you only have one computer you dont need a router you just need a modem. A router splits a single connection to the internet into seperate internal IP address for each computer connected to it.

Sounds like you just bought a router... you need the Dsl/Cable modem... You onlt need a router if you intend on networking a couple computers together. Also I maybe wrong, but everytime that I have gotten dsl or broadband I was given a modem by my provider, so you may want to check with them about a modem first.

you absolutely should never use the modem that comes with your cable/dsl subscription package.

Jasonrunion: I would venture to guess you are using the modem that came with your subscription....cable/dsl modems have burnout lifecycles...the ones that come with the subscription usually have a very very low lifecycle...they're also designed to cap your bandwidth.

stick with linksys is my advice...i've yet to find anything that works as well as their modems/rotuers.

if you have a computer connected via wireless AND you have access control turned on you'll need to add the MAC address from the computers Wireless card to the control list. The MAC address can be found normally on the back of the box that the card came in...on a sleeve inside the box...or on the card itself. My suggestion is to just turn access control off, nobody wants to get on your wireless LAN anyway.(unless you live in a major city like NY Boston LA Chicago)
