Question How do Vampiric Weapons work?

Hi,

Sorry for the noobish question but I just need to know the basics...let's say I have a vampiric bowstring with 5/-1. I understand the -1 health pip for me, but how does the vampiric weapon work when making a 'hit' on an opponent?

Is it stealing life from them (-5) in addition to the normal damage of the weapon?
or
Is it giving them a health degeneration of -5 pips? If so for how long?
or
Is it stealing life from them (-5) and giving that to me and additionally dealing normal damage of the weapon?

You really must tell me!

thanks in advance.

The first statistic does not affect the damage that you do to the creature. It simply adds that amount of health to you with each time you hit an opponent with that weapon.

The second stat (always at -1) is how many "pips" of health regeneration it takes away from you. To translate, vampiric weapons always cause you to lose 2 health per second when you have them equipped, no matter if you're attacking with the weapon or not.

So, for a 3/1 vampiric sword or axe that theoretically can make one hit per every 1.33 seconds, for every four seconds you will gain 12 health but lose 8 health during that same span, or a net gain of four health. You really need to be able to attack/hit more than one opponent to gain the full use of a vampiric weapon.

As Elena corrected, the enemy loses 5 additional health which is then given to you. You can see the vampiric damage when you're on the receiving end of someone else's.

It's definately a nice tool to have if you want to get that extra damage out. Just make sure to unequip it when you're running around for extended periods of time. It CAN kill you if you don't pay attention and monks see it as a hassle sometimes as they have to heal on the run.

I've read the contrary as well that although you see vampric part split up, its actually a piece of the pie (ie you were doing 25dmg say, now you do '20' and '5' vamp).

Something to verify I suppose - to date I've always used other mods, not this one.

Try barrage...with a 5/1 bow

Vampiric weapons work by sucking a certain portion of the soul out. At standard citizens, the percentage pertains to approximately five percentile. As a warrior grows in his stance and matures as an individual, his spirit is made tougher, eventually only taking as little as one percent of the soul. Of course, the fragments of the soul are sent to replenish the weilder of the weapon to help is own soul

OK i just made that up

Can anyone else confirm this? I've done some testing (granted on lower level creatures) and I can't seem to get my maximum damage to exceed my weapon's specs with a 3/1 vamp on it.

I'd like to get a positive confirmation from somewhere that this is the case.

You won't see a number saying you got 3 extra dmg, what you will see is something to the effect of

Healing +3

your opponent however will see something along the lines of

Galrath Slash -37 Life Stealing -3
