Default Questions about GW

Hi all:
I've been playing GW for just over 1 week, I'm a convert from DAoC and WoW because some RL friends wanted to play GW. My first impressions are very good, although I'm concerned as to how long the game can hold my attention. I have some questions related to this that I haven't been able to find answers to, even on this extensive site!

I have to admit that I normally play on RPservers and enjoy PvE and storylines as much as PvP. I also love to try out and play different types of characters and different looks etc. My major disappointment with GW is the 4 toon per account limitation .

Q. Why are you limited to 4 characters , other MMO's allow many more toons per account, especially when you take into account the fact that you can play on multiple servers. Is there a rationale for this ?

Q. Does Arena.Net plan on adding more character slots?

This gets even worse when you consider that 1 slot is best saved for a custom PvP toon. Thus one is limited to only 3 toons for PvE which means if you want to try all 6 professions you have to have no overlap, e.g. W/Mo, Me/El, R/N. Once you have some time invested in these, deleting one to try something else becomes hard to do and you will end up locked in.

Now for some skill related questions. As I understand it, skills & runes that are found / unlocked by PvE toons can be used by a custom PvP toon.

Q. Can a skill / rune that is unlocked by one PvE toon be used by another PvE toon. I'm pretty sure the answer is no, but have to confirm.

Q. If I have a PvE toon that has unlocked several skills and runes and I get bored with that one and want to delete and re-roll, will the custom PvP option lose access to those unlocked skills/runes ?

So far I have a W/Mo 8, a Me/W 11, a E/? 4 and a R/? 1 (re-rolled a post searing toon to try something new). Already frustration with the limited options available is setting in and I'm considering deleting my Me/W becuase the secondary W means I'll be unable to have all 6 professions in only 3 toons

This isn't a rant - I'm concerned about how long I'll be able to play the game before I get so frustrated I quit. I'm not someone who plays only 1 toon to extreme, I like variation in my gaming.

Thanks

The concept of unlocking only pertains to PvP characters. So when your RP character 'unlocks' a skill or item, you are unlocking for use with creating a PvP character. You can then delete and recreate that PvP character with the newly unlocked stuff.

When you create an RP character, just like almost any other game you must learn each spell or skill for that character. Just like in Lineage or NWN, etc, when you delete a character and make a new one, it starts at level 1 and must learn all its own skills.

As far as longevity, this isn't an MMO. It plays different. If you are looking for the same grind it out satisfaction that say an excellent game like Lineage offers, then you won't find that same fulfillment here in Guild Wars. Don't even try because you will get frustrated. GW has lots of cool stuff to offer. My suggestion is just to play the game and enjoy it as it comes. If you need a change from WoW and want to try out an an MMO that is actually challenging try this link: http://lineage.com

Thanks for the reply. I understand the no-grind intention but don't understand why there is such a limitation on the gamer with regards to making multiple RP / PvE toons. Do you think this is intentional, i.e. buy another GW game if you want extra toon options ? Even though 20 is the max level there does seem to be a lot of post 20 content, i.e. gaining skills and runes so the max level of 20 is fine with me.

OK I get the unlock skill/rune in RP/PvE for use with custom PvP toons. But what if I delete a PvE toon with an elite Mesmer skill (and which I don 't possess on any other toon), do I lose access to it on the PvP toon. Granted I don't get to use it on other PvE toons - that makes sense.

Thanks,

Nahkohe

Once you unlock something for your GW account it stays unlocked, even if you delete the RP character.

As far as slots go, I don't know.
