Question OK, need some advice...

OK everyone. I have been playing as a R/W for a while now and have come to the conclusion that the Warrior secondary is not really benefitting me in any way, shape or form.

So, what would you all recommend I change my rangers secondary profession to?

Bearing in mind I do a fair amount of trapping, interrupting but not much beast-mastery.

Thanks.

Your warrior secondary would be good for stances, for example while setting traps.
You could always use a monk for self healing/soloing.
Beast mastery has some great spirits, btw.
Just a few off the top of my head...

I only use my wariior secondary in certain builds, or for certain tasks - it often sits empty. The skills I like from it are for avoiding knockdown or sometimes as a runner, for "charge". If I want to fight in melee I use it a lot, but that's a specific build.

If you are looking for an easy secondary to pick a few skills from, monk comes to mind. Having a real rez on your bar is handy, and a ranger with rebirth is one of the best to carry that skill - they are often the sole survivors of a party-wipe, as they hit from a distance already and have good defensive skills. For offensive purposes, Judges Insight is a decent skill, with a flat effect (20% penetration at any level of smiting) so your investment is purely for the duration, and it can help barrage out a ton.

If you want to improve your trapping, go mesmer secondary. A single skill frrom here can help a bunch:Mantra of Resolve. No more getting interrupted, you lose energy, but that's manageable. Combine with some blindness (throw dirt) and you shouldn't be hit much, while the chance shots that would interrupt you when combat trapping fail.

R/W, and you want to change, eh?

Well, here's my two cents:

Changing warrior with mesmer: This allows for allow of Trap/Interrupt builds <Mainly used UW and FOW, repsectively> And generel PVE it works real well. Also in PVP R/Me are the expert of keeping the casters interrupted while dealing group damage with arrows if they bunch up.

Changing warrior with Elementalist: As the ranger primary does have nice energy regen and a not-so-bad mana pool, I don't suggest this unless you're just using certain skills to benefit your primary, the ranger. Nukes cost too much in the elementalist lines for a rangers mana bar <Not saying you can't, mind you, just it's more time consuming to cast and wait for mana, even with glyphs and whatnot, I know this can be done, because I had one, I'm just not recommending it>.

Changing Warrior with Monk: I see alot of R/Mos, and I have to say even if they don't have divine favor, it's still nice to have another character who can "clutch heal" or rez if everyone else is dead <Yay for rebirthing in Hell's>
Also, this allows you more mobility if you want to be a support character, as you'll almost always get a spot. I for one, love R/Mo's, and would invite them over all other ranger comboes but a R/Me. In PVP this class really serves no purpose other then to interrupt/heal, and not good healing at that when you got other player characters round' ya.

Changing Warrior with Necromancer: R/N's are pretty cool as they can battery and be blood wellers ontop of interupting/effects of ranger's arrows.
I highly recommend this later in the game, but everywhere before desert really..batteries aren't needed as much <as I've seen>. This combo works well in PVP if you battery healers/protect em with your bow.

Hope these suggestions helped a bit

heh shim beat me to it. I have a r/me, great for interupts. I can use choking gas and backfire for general spellcaster control, and then have troll unguent for self-preservation, some kinda degen (usually poison) plus a few general skill interupts (e.g punishing shot/distracting shot). Can work nicely

R/MO would be good if you only intend to use mainly ranger skills, simply coz its nice to have a 'use more than once' res

or you could go like i plan to with my n/r: have a beastmaster with necro minions as well
