Default Trapping order

If trapper knows that the number of traps you can put down before aggroing the selected group is very important.

For seek of this post assume they'd never run out of energy or anything like that.

Skills:
Dust
Barbed
Flame
Serpent
Quickening
Energizing
-
-
(only listed the ones important for trapping and the trapping speed)

Given these - What is the best order to sit the most traps in the alloted time (you have 90 seocnds from first trap sit to set as many and possible, and get the enemy over to your location). Oath Shot is not used here.

Right now I dont think I'm getting the amounts of traps set I should be. I am going in this order:
Activiate Serpent
Set all three traps
Set both spirits
Then set the traps as they recharge until QZ dies - then its about time to go round up monsters.

Is there a more effective order?

Do you find yourself limited by energy or skill recharge?

Energy isn't a problem with the setup, it was more skill recharge and such.

I guess I could drop some energy for a wand or cane wtih recharge 10%. But I cant see where that would statisically make me set more traps (it would go off, precentage wise, about twice throguh the entire process).

if i am ranger trapping i like to set 2 sets of traps. i use the preps and set flame/spike/barbed.... but only 2 of those (i like to use ignite now that enemies run from it) wait a few seconds and set dust trap a little away from these.

draw monsters to first trap area and use a defense skill/or heal, like dryders/troll ungent, get back to dust trap and ignite arrows, now monsters are blinded for you to finish off.

it takes a hair longer but it is pretty stress free.

1-serpents
2-flame
3-dust
4-barbed/spike (Elite)
5-ignite arrows
6-troll
7-dryders
8-poison arrow if i bring barbed trap, not spike.
i like to draw the enemies with a poison arrow for degen.

You need to set the spirits down first. QZ then EW. I've compared not using Serpents with using it last night in UW. My teamate who used it got off 3 more traps than I did in the 90 seconds between triggering. I find its not that useful for traps. I'd much rather have a recharge item. Also, that item will give you energy. Plus any weapon that has 10/-1 or 15/-1 will help tremendously. If you can afford it, get the old 20% global recharge Rockmolder. My trapper loves it.

Trapping can be quite simple. Try this:

Skills -
.Spike Trap (10 energy)
.Flame Trap (10 energy)
.Barb Trap (15 energy)
.Dust Trap (25 energy)
.Quikening Zephyr ^
.Energizing Wind ^
.Serpents Qickness
.Winnowing ^
.Whirling Defense
.Rez Sig or perm life restoring skill
.Troll Unguent

Notes*
- best to be in a group and split the spirits up (noted by a ^ above)
- everybody sets traps
- drop spirits BEFORE you set any traps (traps will recharge faster and cost less)
- Energy cost listed above changes depending on your Expertise level

Cast, in order:
EW (lasts about 70 seconds)
QZ (lasts about 45 seconds)
Winnowing (lasts about 120 seconds)
Serpent's Quickness (lasts about 24 seconds)
Spike, Flame, Barb, Dust traps - trap in tight group and if a Battery is present, in group also
repeat QZ when it dumps
repeat traps as each recharges
when EW dumps - puller has 20 seconds to gather mob and pull to traps
one player takes a hit probably (stay at traps), but if 3 or more trappers all mob members will die
do not split from group (if melee mob) as they will follow and won't hit the traps correctly timed.
if a range attacking mob - pull thru the traps, meaning trappers move directly back, together, so puller can run right at them, thru the traps and the mob follows same line

gather loot, on to the next mob and do it again!

Oh yeah - DO NOT TAKE A QUEST UNLESS AN EXPERIENCED TRAPPER/UW'er SAYS IT IS OK!!!

Actually, my Dust trap recharges in 15 seconds w/ Serpents and 20 seconds without (only QZ and EW).

Say 75 seconds of trapping:
- no Serpents = 3 Dust Traps per trapper
- with Serpents = 5 Dust Traps per trapper (3 trappers = 6 more Dust Traps, 4 = 8 more)

Dust trap pulses and creates massive damage - you knew that. Serpents also works for the other traps, so you do get many more traps down than without using it. We just ran that test last night and I got on average 6-8 more traps down than without Serpents.

I will no longer leave home without it.

the problem with dust trap is that it does 'pulse' and now the enemies run from it. that is why i use a mix of traps.

serpents is a great skill, i think it eliminates the need for QZ/EW

yup you can. a good trapper can set 15 - 20 traps before the first one will auto-trigger. So that's about 3/4 of each trap if you so wish.

I've only trapped a couple of times and managed to get about 12 down each time. I think I was going:

Flame
Spike
Barbed
Dust
Serpents
Flame
Spike
Barbed
Flame
Spike
Barbed
Flame
Spike
Barbed
and if Serpents recharged at any point, throw that in. Plus I was using a staff to give me extra energy.
