I'm not sure every fantasy story's a copy of LotR, especially the ones that came before it.

Whenever something's done well though, everything else feels like more of the same, especially in gaming. Hard to make to make an rpg (for instance) without comparisons to star wars: knights of the old republic, neverwinter nights, baldur's gate, etc.

Also, if you want a travesty of overuse of elves, look no further than UO's latest expansion, which (tada!) includes elves, even though elves have nothing to do with UO and aren't even supposed to exist there. Go figure.

i don't know about anyone else, but if anyone has read R. A. Salvatore's series, the Terrorweb Dryders seem like an allusion to the Demonweb Pits from the Forgotten Realms series......

but i digress. there can and will be soooooooo many "allusions" in every fantasy game. Guild Wars is no difference.
