if u have a clean bow (example) and put a blue, purple, or gold mod in it, does the weapon change the color of the upgrade? if u put a gold upgrade in it does the name of the weapon change to "the rare"?

Nope. Mods are always blue, aside from runes. Golds will always be gold, purples will always be purple, and blues will always be blues. Whites when upgraded become blues.
