data transferred while playing - Guild Wars Forums

hey guys

i got guiuld wars yesterday and am keen as to play it, but i have a university provided internet access without much download. Can you offer me an estimate of MB/hr while playing.

I noticed ive rinsed heaps last night (hundreds of MB's) but i assume that would have been alot of updates since i just installed the game. Does the transfer rate settle down? or does it take hundreds of MB every time, because i may have to return the game

PS: also, how many people play Guild Wars, and what do you guys like about it over WOW (the obvious alternative)

The've done quite a few updates since release, adding new content & modifying existing content, so that's part of the stuff being downloaded. The upcoming Factions preview is probably the main source of all the new material being downloaded (I haven't been keeping track, but I know its over 250Mb just for that). So, things will settle down and you won't have to worry about it.

Hope you have fun with the game, and the only thing I can say I like about GW over WoW is that there's no monthly fee - since I don't play WoW. :P

It settles down quickly after you have the updates. I cant give you an exact figure but I assume it shouldnt be significantly more than any other online game, most probably a lot less.

Check your GW.dat file, if its around 1.5GB you've almost completed all your downloads.
