Pardon the pun

Im planning on running a build that will focus around a pet. I was planning on taking a dire pet but as far as I can see i can only get one through pve. I was under the impression that there was ment to be no difference for pvp between pve and pvp. Only allowing pve access to any pet type besides elder seems quite an advantage to me! Is there a way to get a dire pet? I really really dont want to have to do the storyline all over again and lose a pvp slot for this. Seems stupid and rather unfair that pvp cant choose.
