Why does Guild wars have a major rune?
If you look at rune trader almost or ALL major runes are 100 gold (means nobody buying em) Is this because major runes suck period vs minor runes? If so why do they call them major runes, if they suck so bad? When I look at minor runes the price they have on them 55% of time owns EVEN SUPERIOR runes (cept for monk superior runes, which I think GW keeps them at 5K for a reason)
Is superior rune better than minor rune? If not why do they call them superior rune if it sucks bad agaisnt minor rune?

On your armor do you have minor runes, or do you have the runes that are suppose to be better than minor runes MAJOR runes, or do you have the best type of rune on your armor SUPERIOR rune?
My armor has MAJOR vigor, SUPERIOR absorption, MINOR Strength, MINOR Tactics, and MINOR Swordmanship, so I basically use 3/5 MINOR runes, even though MINOR runes are supposably the WORST type of rune.

Why does minor runes cost so much when compared to major and superior? That is stupid to have the WORST TYPE of rune cost more than the BETTER or BEST type of rune.

Superior runes are +3 to the attribute and -75 hp.
Major runes are +2 to the attribute and -35 hp (used to be -50).
Minor runes are +1 to the attribute and no health penalty.

The Minor, Major, Superior comes from the attribute increase. The prices are based on market demand, which takes into account, in addition, the -hp and the various builds that use particular runes. Because Major runes were -50 for so long, not many builds used them, as it was worth the extra -25 for an additional attribute point.

Of course, vigor and absorption runes are different because they carry no health penalty, and in these cases, you see the price increases from Minor to Major to Superior.

Does that help explain this ?

new characters can't handle the -health penalty on the runes so the minor runes are applied, and typically many people are cranking out new characters every now and then so the demand stacks up

Ok you kinda explained this, but forgot 1 thing, listing what rune type your using on your character, be truthful now. I dont see how +3 of a skill with -75 dmg beats +1 skills, +2 skills -25 dmg is close, but for me I say +1 skills should be renamed to SUPERIOR, MAJOR stay same and SUPERIOR drop to MINOR, thats my thoughts on these runes and there value.

Why do you make inane topics/posts like this every day now <_<

Sup runes are good because +3 is the only way to 16 in an attribute, which alot of builds like/require because of the fact skills get better the higher the attribute.

You could just have a max of 13 in something with minors...and have more HP...but 13 in an attribute is much less than 16 in one, especially when you consider the attribute spread on most builds.

Major runes aren't worth a lot because it's a giant pain to have to change 2 pieces of armor when changing builds. I very often use major runes on PvP characters, but can't be arsed to buy and lug around an extra piece of armor just to use a major rune. Taken that way, a major rune costs 1.6k at the very minimum.

Do you think they should bump up the value of runes to distinguish clearly which one is more valuable? Like minor starts at 100, Major starts at 1K, Superior starts at 2K in market value? Because clearly looking at the stats, I perfer keeping 75 health over +2 skills and keeping +25 health for +1 skill.

How come 1 person only answered what type rune they using, I am curious of what the type of rune your using on your PvE character.

I use 1 superior profession rune, 3 minor profession runes and 1 superior or major vigor rune. But that can change depending on the build. The 75 health usually isn't that big of a deal if you have a good healer on your team, but the 3 extra points can mean you do a lot more damage. Not to mention that you can off set it with vigor runes, +hp armor, weapon upgrades and/or offhand items.

If you prefer using minor, go right a head, we don't all have to play the same way.

Values are not based on what they do, but on what people are willing to pay, and the supply.

Supply and demand, all runes start at 100 gold, as demand goes up, price goes up. Making major runes even more costly than they already are isn't going to convince people to use them.

Yesterday became the first tim I had ever used -hp rune(major soul reaping). ONLY reason I used it, instead of staying with minor, was that I had a major vigor rune to cover hp loss. If I hadnt had the major vigor, I probably wouldve sold it, as I often do with major/superior runes. Was able to lower an attribute, using rune to make up for it, and shift points elsewhere .

I use Major rune of Strenght and Axe mastery so I can have some points left over for tactics and healing prayers. Coupled with a +30 mod and a +30 sheild, you only suffer -10 health, which is easily remedied by a minor vigor rune.

I don't see additional health as much of an advantage, because a few rounds of combat and that mod has already been negated. However, increased amour penatration and damage on all your attacks, has definate advantages.

A lot of people just like to see their hp go as high as possible, and spend ridiculous amounts of money to do so. However, with a simple skills like endure pain, I don't see any need for those mods, except to cover up for the health penalties from runes.

That is the main reason peeps use runes....to shift Att pts to other areas. I use a Major Vigor, Major Sword, Majot Tactics, Major Strength, Superior Absrobtion....Also have a +1 tactics helm...

This enables me to have (as a warrior/mesmer) the following attribute distrubution

Sword 12
Strength 12
Tactics 12

Inspirations 7

**note completed both 15 Att quests also note that I am only losing 105hps but gaining 6 attributes instead of losing 75hps and gaining only 3.

Hope this helps

Yeah, after you've done the first 15 quest in the desert and then ascended, just talk to Vanyi in Droknar's Forge up by the Xunlai agents.

Incidentally, I breezed through this quest months ago with my first two chars, a Wammo and a Monk, but when I tried to help a guildie yesterday I just couldn't run him to Copperhammer Mines. Has it been toughened up? Or is my old age starting to take effect

Anyway, back on topic - my Wammo uses a Sup Vigor and Sup Absorption always, the other three slots are either Sup Axe/Minor Strength/Minor Tactics or Sup Tactics/Minor Strength/Minor Axe depending on what I'm doing.

...which I generally do badly, but hey!

I use a superior rune in the headpiece always. The rest of the runes are usually minor runes, but occasionally I use a major rune depending on the build I'm using. Some skills have attribute level breakpoints so I will want to reach them depending on the build and how I'm splitting attribute points.

As far as the cost it goes on supply and demand. If you notice a lot of warrior and ranger minor runes are expensive. People buy them a lot and the supply is lower so the price goes up until the trader is restocked by players. On the other hand you might notice that mesmer runes are never worth anything no matter what kind they are.

I use 3 majors on my ranger, but only since the -35 update. Before that majors were pretty much totally useless.

You guys joking? I always see Major runes sell for 100, except for 5 of em. Its like Major rune is a dead deal, not worth being called Major rune.
