Default A slow bum's way to get to level 20?

I was thinking of just running a tyrian character to LA, then going to do the crazy xp quests in cantha when your like level 3 or something. Then let the hecnhes do all the fighting for you and you get the reward! I know it might be a slow and a little frustrating, but it would be kinda quick, and not power leveling either.

My question for you all is, do you think this is at all viable?

Yup, most people do that...levelling in Cantha is a lot faster

That's a good idea for leveling up. However for skills, not so good because you would have to go back and do the skill quests if you don't have the cash to buy them yet. Unless you're just planning on buying the canthan ones in Kaineng Center, whereas you could just create a Canthan character and complete the Tyrian mission from LA onward.

Pre-LA missions are open to Canthans now.

@ OP: That's pretty much what I did with my Necro. The minute he got to Lion's Arch, I took a boat ride to Cantha to do quests there. I was level 17 by then though...

Avaith Faer - Pre-LA missions are open to Canthans now.

The missions, yes. But the quests that get you skills? I don't think so. Can anyone confirm if this has been changed recently?

No power-leveling? What if you get it for free? But the second fastest way is try to get to lvl 16 in Cantha then getting a run to the desert, get friends to do the missions for you and ascend, boom walla bing, lvl 20 FTW!

Call me technical, but Wraparound did say missions, not quests...

As to the quests: if your Canthan born character is of a core profession, then (as told to me by a trusted friend) you can go back to Tyria and do the skill quests there. I am not sure if this applies for secondary professions.

The pre-LA missions are open for Canthans but you do not get XP rewards from them on completion (anything before D'Alessio Seaboard that is). Just like Tyrian chars don't get XP from the two Shing Jea Island missions. Quests with skill rewards are available after LA, my rit currently has Blankets for the Settles, Weaver of Nebo etc etc, however, she will only get skill rewards for her secondary prof which is ele. Ran her to Beacon's Perch where she cannot get any quests like Hungry Devourer etc.

Lightbulb 6 Levels. 2 Days. 1 Monk. Cantha. =D (Oh, and a -50 Cesta, too.)

Yep, this works. I'm doing it with a monk right now.

Pre and Setup: Created the character, blew through presearing and popped out as a level 6. Got basic 30 armor, from Corwen, minus the scalp.

Symon 1, Northern Wall, Ranik Skip: Did first Symon quest, first mission, (level 7), then skipped the Ranik mission and RAN MYSELF to Surmia. (Bots = good for this kind of thing. They're like meatshields, muahaha. I love how a Mo/Me with the second-cheapest Ascalon armor possible can make it no problem, yet level 8s are still going "LFR Surmia!")

Surmia+: Did Surmia (don't forget to get Cities of Ascalon first!), did King's Watch, got the all-powerful cesta. Did all missions--and a few short quests for basic skillz--up to Frost Gate (Self-ran from Yaks to Borlis, dropped more meatshields.) Now I'm a Level 9.

Runs: Got a run to Beacons, then got a run to LA. Hopped on the Siren's Sound to Cantha.

Total Costs: 600g for armor (I already had the 14 cloth), 500g for Beacon's run, 100g for LA run, = 1.2k.

Total Time: 5 Days, ish? 3 in Pre, 2 in post? Something like that.

I did that yesterday, as a Level 9... and most of that day's gaming was spent in the Shiverpeaks. At the time of this writing, I'm about 800exp away from Level 18. (And yes, these are NORMAL DAYS. No sitting in front of the compy for 6 hours at a time like my crazy friend.)

Record: 5 levels in a little over 3 hours. (12 to 17)

Tip: Bring Signet of Capture. Always. Bots are doing most of the work anyway. In case you didn't know (I had forgotten): When you cap an elite skill, you get +250exp for each level you've reached. Since Signet of Capture is the only skill you'll probably be buying (it's unlocked in Cantha without the LA quest), that's 3000-4000exp for about 50 bucks... and yes, you'll find plenty of bosses on your journeys. Trust me.

Tip: Make the Am Fah Like You! There's this quest, "The Search for a Cure." Get it from Imperial Agent Hanjo in Kaineng. Go talk to Bujo, bring him the Jade Bro capes, get a cool 3000exp, get the followup in your quest log and STOP THERE. All Am Fah will be friendly to you. You don't have to fight through them... until you finish that quest. Then they all hate you. So until you're done with your runarounds, get your fighting-based EXP from Jade.

Cheers.

This works great. In my case, I took my monk to Cantha, leveled him up to 20, got him 1.5k armor, took him back to LA, and took a shorter route to the desert. Got my 2 15 skillpoint quests done. Bam. Shiny.

A couple weeks ago there was a special event that most of us remember called the Dragon Festival.

This was a nice little festival opened to all. That is if you are CANTHAN!!! Or if you managed to get your character to Lion's Arch and cross over.

My Ranger was the only character that I had that didn't have access as I had only gone through character creation with him. I like doing everything in the game with my characters, which includes Presearing. So I refuseed to simply skip out on it. I didn't want to spend all week of the festival going through Presearing and leveling a character to get to Lion's Arch, and thus I just submitted to the fact that he wasn't going to get the coveted Dragon MASK! MAsk??? Mask??? mask.... (echo)

But then on the very last day that the Dragon Mask traders were (supposed to be) available, I decided to see if I could go ahead and do Presearing (meaning complete all the missions and clear the map), and then run my character to LA, cross the sea and get my dragon mask. I had 24 hours left to do so (that is if they had left when they were supposed to). And I didn't want to use henchies either.

Usually I do all of the secondary quests that I can before choosing my secondary, but I decided that I would only do the Ranger quests and warrior quests, as I didn't want the extra XP from the extra quests.

So I completed Presearing, leaving with 1.15k, a vial of black dye, the collectors armor (dyed green), a Presearing crafters bow, and was 7th level.

I then discovered that I wasn't able to leave old Ascalon until I talked to the quest guy, and when I did I gained lvl 8. I then proceeded to run without making any kind of upgrades. I made it to the courthouse with one death (occurring just before the courthouse) I then made it to Yak's bend with only one more death. Getting out of Traveler's Vale, I died 3 times as I tried running it without fighting anything, but with the damn Ice Golems and Summit Archers I couldn't do it, so I had to fight part way through it.

Iron Horse Mine was by far the most difficult part of the run, as I was still lvl 8 at this point. Getting through Iron Horse I ended up dying somewhere in the range of 250 more times, before I finally got through, as it's damn near impossible to take things down at that level and with such low gear, and I couldn't find any place where I could simply run through to make it to the end of the map. I tried dozens of different routes and strategies, where as I think it was mostly luck that got me through it finally.

I then continued to run where I survived fully intact until I arrived at Griffon's Mouth where I died twice trying to make it through the Snow Ettins.

I then died another time in Scoundrel's Rise as I tried to straight run it (I know I should have known better, but hey I was on a roll), but the Mergoyles weren't going to allow it, so I had to fight through them. I then took a wrong turn, went to the Gates of Kryta by accident, and had to fight back the other way to get to North Kryta Province, where I was then level nine. I then made it to Lion's Arch unscathed and proceeded to Kaineng and then down across the water. I then made the run to the temple, opened storage, got my jade orbs, traded them in for my mask, and???

This is me doing my victory dance:

And here it is dyed green soon after: ^_^

I then proceeded to go through the Canthan quests and it took me about an hour of play to go from level 9 to level 20.

All in all it took me 18 hours. Presearing, Iron Horse Mine, and Scoundrel's Rise costing the majority of that time.

And btw I "would" consider that power leveling, especially if you are having someone else run you. You are supposed to be around lvl 18 by the time you hit LA, so even though I did it without a runner and without henchies, I still consider what I did power leveling as well, simply because you are achieving a massive number of levels through means which weren't intended for the game. However, it's obvious that Anet has decided to throw out leveling as a real objective after Prophecies, seeing as Canthan characters are usually level 20 by the time they leave the starting island, which would be the equivalent of leaving Presearing at level 20. So they've said lets get rid of all this leveling crap fast, get them to max, and get them out there fighting level 20+ mobs the whole way through (except for the wardens whose low levels still make me laugh when I encounter them).
