Default Lvl 14 when entering The Marketplace?

Hi, I just got out of the Shing Jea Island as a lvl14, when i came on the main land i faced lots of lvl20 monsters, is it normal if you are lvl14 when you get out of Shing Jea, or should you wait till lvl20?

Lvl 14 is a bit low for coming off Shing Jea, yes. There are a lot of quests you probably haven't done yet that you could go back and do. Make sure you've done both missions and done both 15 attribute quests. It would be ok to be lvl 14 coming off Shing Jea if it wasn't for needing to find groups for the missions. Probably no one would let you in their group at lvl 14 for the missions, especially the first one which can be very troublesome for many ppl.

If you do *everything* you should be around level 17, I don't think you can get higher from just quests/missions.

17-18 is doable if you do all the quests on the island. Once one the mainland you can grab henchmen and do some of the quests that will take you to 20 pretty quick.

14's just too low really. I was gonna write a guide to playing the game for a beginner but I guess most wouldnt know of guru but there are a few tricks I learnt to getting going quickly in Factions. I know this isnt much help to you now but hey someone else may read.
The first thing is simple. Although you may have already decided that a Wa/Mo is for you take ALL the secondary quests on. Some people may think this is obvious as its alot of quick and easy exp but some people dont realise this. To make things quicker take all the secondary quests on at the same time. This way when you leave a town you can do them all in one. Note on this though that you dont really need any of the skills offered to you except for the mesmer one. You need a mesmer skill to cure some guy of an affliction so I tend to leave this one and do it later.
After youve done all these head on out onto the islands as your wandering around on different quests make sure you take all available quests on as you go. This save time on those annoying running round in circles quests. Most quests are easy so you shouldn't get bogged down. When your done with nearly all of these and completed the missions its only really the harder quests left like unwelcome guests and captured son. If you hang around there seems to be alot of experienced players helping out on these missions to test builds so watch out for them (I personally like my MM 1 woman army to help with cap son sometimes) By the time youve done all this you should be lvl's 17-18 which makes life alot easier on the mainland. The run up to kaineng is an easy one where you can upgrade to max armour and take on a plethora of high exp quests which will have you running around in relative safety talking to different people. I find factions is an incredibly easy place to lvl up and build chars so I built 3 in a week and easily completed the game in the following months. One thing I would point out though is to find a couple of usefull builds out and buy skills for those as you go along. This will make you a more flexible player and easier to get parties. Who knows as your collecting the skills you may stumble across a build that suits you. Enjoy

You can hit about a max or 18 on the island before leaving. If you do all the quests (including every secondary quest, and the insignia one) as well as all 3 or 4 of the Emporer's Blade quests on the island you will be in good shape to go to the mainland. You should definately hit 20 before doing Vizunah Square though.

My mesmer was 19,5 when she left the island, did nothing but quests and missions.

It all depends on how many mobs you kill, as I said doing JUST quest/missions will get you to around 17.

Yes, and I said I did nothing but missions and quests. The questing was rather efficent as well, didn't have to go through the same area twice unless there was something I had to follow up so I didn't kill many mobs. Was also the quickest I've ever leveled, managed lv 20 in 6 hours or something.

It is mostly about skill, which is the beauty of the game design...but the attribute points you get from the last few levels can make for a much easier time. And give more build flexibility too.

Also, Boreas Seabed is only about halfway through the game. Still seven more missions to go from there. In fact you still have to do the Befriending the Kurzicks/Luxons from there and if you don't AB that can take a little bit of time.

Cantha is soooo much different to Tyria. Leaving Pre Searing at lvl 2 was no big deal since the monsters at ascalon started at lvl 3 and 4. But try doing that at Cantha and its a whole new ballgame. I think i left at 16 or 17.

I like the fact that owning both titles is the fastest and cheapest way to get max armour. (And i'm talkin in game cost since shelling out extra cash for the expansion just to do this would be ridiculous just to save a few plat .) Start at Pre, leave at lvl 2. Get a run to LA cheap. Zone to Marketplace. Run to Center free by yrself at lvl 2 cause no fighting. Buy max armour. Cheap and easy

Yeah, I don't see any reason not to be at least level 17 when you reach the Marketplace. I've reached there at levels 17, 17, and 18. After you finish the quests on the island, do some quests on the mainland. Talk to one of the guardsmen on Kaineng. It should be the quest where you talk to Bujo and bring back three Jade Brotherhood capes. This allows you to be a part of Am Fah and that'll make it A LOT easier to do the other quests around the Wajjun Bazaar area.

Just be sure you take the quest "Seek out Brother Tosai" but dont ever finish it. If you do this, there will be very few mobs in Wajjun Bazaar, enabling you to finish several quests without fighting.
