Default Weird stats

Purple Ebon Gothic Axe of Defense
Earth Damage: 6-28 (requires 8 axe mastery)
Armor +5 (vs physical attacks)

No + damage, not even while hexed, this has got to be a bug. I have seen gold weapons this way also. Have these types of stats always existed in game or is this new?

Seems to me the lack of + damage should make it white not purple. Another flaw in the AI I guess.

There's no reason to assume a gold weapon will have a natural +dmg mod, crappy weapons come in all colors of the weapon rainbow.

September 16th update

A bonus attribute does not mean an inherent damage bonus any prefix or suffix counts toward this as well.
You're lucky you missed the good old days where golds would drop with nothing on them

So basically the AI is broken and has never been fixed. OR this is a designed behavior. If it's a DB then the color of a weapon is mute.

The mods on a weapon will change color(tier) of it. If its a certain color you can expect to get a certain range of "potential" from a weapon. dmg% is just a bonus.

Nah, it's non-max. A perfect Req. 8 15>50 would fetch over 1 mil, but a non-max one like this, eh, maybe 30k to someone who really loves Sephis Axes.

Imaginary Conversation in game..

EW: WTS: Gothic Axe (not same in OP) max damage, +15%^50%, req9 15k
Joe_Q_Player: Let me see it
EW: By storage
Joe_Q_Player: Dude it's crap it's not gold, you won't get 15k for a purple axe.. NOOB!

Now, based on the conversations here, Joe_Q_Player is wrong. Color in this case is not important. (same stats in purple or gold) But most in game will say the axe is crap and junk it. Except for the few that understand game mechanics. I wonder how many weapons get scraped or sold to the merchant that are really treasures that get smeared by the stigma of weapon color?

Ok, lets clarify here. Color has NOTHING to do with the mods on a weapon, except with regards to Vampiric and Zealous which will only appear on rare drops now. Color is defined by a comparison of the basic stats of an item vs. the mob that dropped it. For example, if you found a max damage sword with zero mods, no damage bonus, no nothing except that it was 15-22 in presear, it would be a gold item as this is an incredibly non-typical drop for the presear mobs.

Think of it this was, all the drops in the game are placed in a table, with different rows in the table representing increasing improvements in the general stats of the weapon, newbie weapons in row one, crystalline swords in the last row. There are more rows than there are mob levels in the game. Each mob is assigned to a row based upon it's species, location, and a few other things. This assignment defines the TYPICAL drop from that mob. However, now is when random chance comes into play, that mob could actually get an item from a row further down the list than where it sits. 1 to 2 positions out of place is an uncommon drop, 3 to 4 is a rare drop. The actual stats on the item do not matter, only how common it is for the mob you killed to have that item. Now, when Factions was released, a minor tweak was made to this system in that only rare drops can have Vampiric or Zealous mobs on them, beyond this, the actual stats are based upon the mob that dropped it and the items relative position to that mob in the table of potential drops for that mob.

I had a Ebon Great Axe 6-28 with no mods drop in the desert.
For some reason, I think Ebon triggers as purple...

as long as it has any magical effect it will be coloured (ie none white),... the worst mod (considered by the game) will be blue, then purple, then gold...

ebon is considered as magical effect due to the earth damage part...
