Default Giving Game to Family member?

I have played with my original GW game occaisionally, but find I don't have the time and would like to give it to my brother.

I of course have the original disks and access code.

Do I have to delete my characters/account online, or can I just delete the game from my system and then he can install and use the game with the access code on the disc sleave?

When he installs the game on his system using the access code, will he need to use my email or will he be able to register his own information?

Thanks

Basecly it isnt allowed to give/sell your acount to anyone not even to fammely members.

But the only ting you need to doo is install guild wars on his system and logon using your username and password.

As andro said.

Give him your email address and password, give him the disks, let him install it on his system.

He can then keep your characters or delete them as he sees fit!!

Thanks guys. That's easy enough.

Seems strange that your not supposed to be allowed to give (or even sell) your program away. Only one person can use the Access key, and that WAS paid for.

Anyway, thanks and enjoy your adventures in GW!

The reason you're not technically allowed to give away accounts is for security purposes. If you give your account away, even if he changes the log-in and password, since you have the access key you can contact support and claim it was stolen. For this reason, it is against the EULA to give away accounts, or receive used accounts.

I don't think you'd get too many complaints for giving it to your brother though :P

OK, I've discovered a part 2...

My son and I both have the game (I bought 2 copies so we could play together/go online at the same time). So I have two copies.

I have logged onto the game and changed my email and password to something generic to give to bro. I left the characters as I saw he can easily delete them.

Problem. I don't know which game disks I used on my system. My son wants to continue using his. Is there a way to match the access code inside the disc cover to the installed game on a system so I know which discs to give to bro. Or do I just have to give him 1 set, have him install, and hope he gets mine (as I guess if my newly created email/password won't work, or he sees my son's email address instead of mine since they are both saved in the login page, he must have my son's copy, in which case he would have to uninstall that one and get the other one from me).

I tried the manage access keys choice on edit account, but that was not a help.

I don't suppose GW staff would help, although I have the email and pw for both and both access codes, I suppose I could tell them I wanted to reinstall my version and needed to know which discs to use. I guess I will try that route if there is no ther way...

I looked in the game folder and there are only 3 files, the short cut and a large DAT file and a 0 byt temp file, no help there.

Is there anything on the disks themselves that may help?

Any help out there?

Thanks!

You really don't need the disk (CD) to install the game. All your brother needs to do is download the client form Guildwars.com and enter the new username and password you created (changed) and he will be good to go. You can give him the CD's if you want but, he should really never need them.

*edit*
The only thing on the CD is the old client. It would probably be much quicker to download the client from GW anyway because then he won't have to streem all the updates only the newer ones that just came out.

Kratimus and all,

Thanks for your help. I ended up asking GW staff, and found out things are as described. Once the game is initially installed/access key used, you don't need the access key any more. The access key activates a new account, and that account becomes associated with the email/password that is entered when it is created. Once the new account is created, the access key cannot be used again. It is the email/pw combo that becomes the item of value. Once you have a valid email/pw combo, you can sign on to the game from any system that has it installed.

Thanks for the help, enjoy your adventures in Guild Wars!
