Default Need advice on Factions, just started & how do cutscene's work?

I guess the title says it all, I'm new both to guild wars and to this game.

I just bought guild wars factions, And just wanna know where to start.

And how do the ingame cutescenes get triggered if its a live game.

Anyway my name is Harry, I'm 20 from the uk and im heavily into rock and metal.

Mod Edit: Please ensure your thread titles are relevant to what your thread is about. Titles such as "I'm new!" or "maybe some help" are not acceptable. I edited the thread title to something more relevant.

Create a roleplaying character of your choosing. There is a tutorial to teach you some basics so just play around and get used to the game. The area around Shing Jea is newb-friendly as many monsters won't even attack unless you attack them first.

Getting killed is no big deal, you just have a death penalty until you go back to a town or gain XP to reduce it, you don't lose and gold or gear.

Cut scenes trigger during missions or other points in the story and everyone in your team sees them and has the chance to vote to skip them. If it is your first time through the story do not feel pressured to skip, there is nothing lost in skipping other than the time it takes to view them.

Getting in a good guild can also help with the learning process as there are helpful people to chat with and team up to show the ropes.

check the guildwiki.org site for complete game info - professions, weapons, damage, quests, missions, etc. http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Main_Page

Please read the new player area especially the scams.

Unlike most online RPGs, every combat area - Explorables, the Arenas, Missions etc - are instanced, meaning you and your party gets their own personal copy of the map to do their monster-bashing. This also allows for the cut-scenes, which DeanBB has explained.

If you've just started Factions, you haven't picked the easiest chapter to start with. But that isn't a bad thing - it's the best chapter for learning about PvP and offers a wider scope on the finer points of game mechanics, as well as offering the best adrenaline buzz (in my opinion).

Once you create a roleplaying character, you will have the option to go through a tutorial on the Monastery Overlook which will get you acquainted with all the basics, and when you enter the monastery you will be given some primary quests that will get you started with your primary profession. After that, there are a series of other primary quests which can give you an idea of what all the other professions are capable of. I would suggest checking out all of them before you decide on your character's secondary profession, as it'll help you level up a bit more and give you more gold and some monastery credits. Hold on to your monastery credits, as you can take them to the quartermasters (there are 2 in the monastery and 3 in one of the later outposts on the starting island) and trade them in for some really useful things (and save yourself a lot of money in the process).

Also, if you'd like some help, feel free to add me to your in-game friends list (hit N to bring it up and add my character name). I'd be happy to help you through basic training
